How to print Rebuild Results

How do you print the results of a rebuild? I used to be able to do it ( about 6 months ago, on QB 23 ), but the option is gone now ( QB 24 ). Sometimes I need to verify what the rebuild actually did and keep a record for our files, but I can't print anymore.

How to print Rebuild Results

Hello, BiteMe4.

Thanks for posting your question here in the Community. I'm here to lend a hand so you're able to print the results of a rebuild in QuickBooks Desktop 24.

The key is to access the report generated after the verify/rebuild process, often by finding the log file or specific report in the Reports menu if one was generated. Here's how to get this done:

  1. Verify Data First:
    • Log in as Admin in Single-User Mode.
    • Go to File > Utilities > Verify Data.
    • Note the message QuickBooks gives you. If it says "Your data is damaged," proceed to Rebuild.
  2. Rebuild Data:
    • Go to File > Utilities > Rebuild Data.
    • Follow prompts to save a backup when asked.
    • After the rebuild finishes (you'll see a message), click OK.
  3. Access & Print the Report:
    • If errors were found during the Verify step (and potentially fixed by Rebuild), QuickBooks often creates a report or log file.
    • Check your Reports menu for any new reports or look for the qbwin.log file, which contains detailed error information and might be generated or updated.
    • Once you find the relevant report or log (e.g., by opening the qbwin.log in Notepad or running a specific QuickBooks report if available), click the Print icon in the report's toolbar to set up printing options (printer, pages, copies) and print it.

How to print Rebuild Results

That sounds good. Except, I do a rebuild when a backup fails. After the rebuild, I re-do the backup. That erases the rebuild report.

And I've looked at the log files before. Maybe you guys can make sense of them, but I can't. I mean, seriously. how is anyone supposed to make sense of it? ( attaching 20 pgs of the last one, after successful backup)

And how am I supposed to know if there are any new reports created? I went into Report Manager, and looked at "Recent Reports" and the only one was an Open PO report.

Why did you remove the Print option from the results screen?
