How to restore deleted transactions from reconciled period.

Hi, QuickBooks community,

I have a question once again, hope I will find a solution.

There is one account which I want to reconcile from July last year, however, I can't start it because QB tells me that there are two deleted transactions from the reconciled period in March and I don't know how to fix it.  I attached the screenshot

I must admit, I changed some transactions by the end of the year to be able to send correct information in the 1019 form to my customers and vendors with the help of Quickbooks.

Thank you

Re: How to restore deleted transactions from reconciled period.

Thanks for the quick response, fpbinvestor123.

Allow me to step in for a moment and provide clarification about the action buttons showing on the Reconciliation page.

Based on the first screenshot, the Resume reconciling button will show up if you’re unable to finish the reconciliation process. While the Start reconciling button indicates the account is not yet reconciled.

If you want to reconcile the Escrow-9434, please click on the Resume reconciling button. Let me walk you through the steps.

  1. Go to Accounting on the left panel, then choose Reconcile.
  2. Select the account you’re working on.
  3. Click on the Resume reconciling button.
  4. Review the transactions.
  5. If the data listed on screen matches the ones on your statement, select the checkbox next to the amount for that transaction.
  6. Choose Finish now/Save for later.

Re: How to restore deleted transactions from reconciled period.

Hello there, @fpbinvestor123

I appreciate you providing on-point details and a screenshot for me to get a better picture of your reconciliation concern.

I'll share some information about restoring deleted transactions from a reconciled period.

You're right with running the Reconciliation Discrepancy report. While you can't undo these two deleted transactions, you can check the details of each transaction by clicking the View link under the History column (see the screenshot below).

Then, you'll need to manually recreate the two transactions in the bank register. Here's how:

  1. Go to Accounting from the left menu.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts.
  3. Locate the appropriate account, then choose View register.
  4. Under the Date column, select Add Expense from the drop-down.
  5. Enter the correct transaction date, then fill in the remaining fields.
  6. Click Save.

For more information, you can check out this helpful article: Add Transactions To Bank Register

After that, you'll need to manually mark these transactions as "R" (see the screenshot below). This will amend the opening balance of the current reconciliation.

You can visit these useful articles for more information about fixing reconciliation discrepancies:

The steps above will help you achieve your reconciliation goal, @fpbinvestor123. I'm here anytime you have other concerns. Have a great day!

Re: How to restore deleted transactions from reconciled period.

Hi @RaymondJayO

Firstly, thank you so much for such a detailed answer. I was able to follow your steps and this was fixed however there occurred another issue, I somehow can't reconcile in the way I can with other accounts which haven't got such issue.

I attached screenshots from this account and another one where I can reconcile a particular period. I mean ending balance and date.

Re: How to restore deleted transactions from reconciled period.

Thank you @Rasa-LilaM for your message.

I tried to resume it, however, it doesn't show 0.00 in any way, and I feel like I would need to ask an accountant to proceed further I suppose. There are plenty of transactions that need to be sorted since July 2018

Thank you once again

Re: How to restore deleted transactions from reconciled period.

When I try to Start reconciliation I noticed that my account that was reconciled through June 31, 2018 is reflecting the beginning balance that was as of March 2018 instead of July 2019. I guess this is the reason why I am not able to continue the reconciliation. When I click reconcile I do not see any transactions before July 2018 because they were reconciled already.

In reconciliation reports I have two statement ending dates 2/28/2018 and 6/30/2018 and when I do reconciliation the beginning balance is reflected for 2/28/2018 instead of 6/30/2018 because we made some changes to it I guess. It also says:

Since this reconciliation on 08/20/2018, changes were made to the reconciled transactions in this report.

How do I bring it back to normal so all transactions are registered and the beginning balance for 6/30/2018 is reflected?

Re: How to restore deleted transactions from reconciled period.

Thanks for providing an update, @fpbinvestor123. I'm here to help with your beginning balance.

Based on what you're describing, it sounds like you're receiving a beginning balance alert. I'm including an article that covers this alert and the steps that you will need to follow in order to resolve it: Fix an opening balance to match a bank statement. In particular, I recommend the Fix a beginning balance alert section.

Since you're reconciling, I also suggest the following resource which contains numerous articles to help a user with the reconcile process: Reconcile Hub

I'm confident that this will get you on the right path for reconciling the accounts.
