Hello there, @wk11.
Thanks for visiting the Community. It’s my priority to help fix any network-related issues, so you can access the company file in a different computer.
Since QuickBooks uses a database manager to communicate with the company file, you have to configure the multi-user set up through the recommended or alternate mode. Make sure to enable hosting where the company file is stored. Here's how:
- Go to the File menu and select Utilities.
- Choose Host Multi-User Access.
- Click Yes on the confirmation window.
To enable the alternate setup mode, I suggest reaching out to an IT professional before performing the steps below:
- Close QBDT and make sure QBW32.exe isn’t running in the task manager.
- Go to C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QuickBooks (Year).
- Edit the QBW.ini file in notepad.
- Under the [MISC] section, enter ENABLENONRECOMMENDEDMODE=1.
- Save the QBW.ini file, open QuickBooks and switch it to Multi-User mode.
- When you get the H202 error, you’ll see the Alternate Setup button as confirmation that the ini.file is correctly edited.
- Choose Alternate Setup and click Yes to any proceeding UAC messages.
Once done, run the IPConfig tool on your computer to help troubleshoot problems on a network. Let me show you how:
- Select the Windows Start button.
- Enter CMD on the search field.
- In the list of results, click Command Prompt.
- At the command prompt, enter ipconfig and press Enter.
Now, try accessing the company file to check if the network is connected to QuickBooks. See resolve network issues with QuickBooks File Doctor test results article for more information.
This information should get you back in line. Always know that you can count on me if you have any additional questions. Take care and have a pleasant day ahead!
