I’d like to make the switch but I want to confirm that it will work first.

I have been using QuickBooks for MAC since 2012. I’m currently on the 2020 version.

I am constantly referring back to old entries in QuickBooks. I have all the invoices and receipts in PDF form attached to the various different entries that I have made. This is the only place that the invoices, receipts, and all my company bookkeeping is stored.

I’m thinking about switching to QuickBooks Online, but I just want to confirm first that I will be able to seamlessly convert my QuickBooks for MAC 2020 with all the information into QuickBooks Online.

As a secondary question, is QuickBooks Online all performed through a browser? If so, are the same exact features and information available thru an iPhone or iPad browser as a computer browser?  I ask because sometimes companies will limit features when using a mobile browser due to the smaller screen.

Hi there, Electrician.

I'm here to share some information about how the conversion process works.

You can definitely move your QBDT for Mac file to QuickBooks Online. However, there are certain data that won't be converted upon migrating to QBO. You may notice some missing transactions and mismatched reports. To learn more about the things you need to review and consider before converting your file, you can read this article: Converting a Desktop for Mac file to Online.

Moreover, our Product Development team found an issue with the conversion process from QuickBooks for Mac 2021 and 2020. If you happen to encounter unexpected behaviors during the migration, I'd recommend contacting our technical supports. This way, we'll be able to look into your account and help you in moving the file.

With regard to your second question, you'd still get the same features if you access QBO through a mobile browser. We also have a mobile app that you can install to help easily handle your everyday business transactions. You may read this guide to know which features are supported on mobile devices: Compare mobile app features.

Lastly, if you need some references in using the program or answers to frequently asked questions, you can always visit our Help Article page.

KlentB, thank you for such a great response. I’m going to sit down and read through all of your links shortly.
I do have one thing that I’d like to confirm. The QBO app that I would use on my iPhone or iPad is limited in functionality, but if I need to do something while using the iPad or iPhone I can go into the browser version and do anything that I would be able to do on a computer, correct?

Hello there, @Electrician.

Thanks for getting back to us, and we're glad to know that my colleague was able to provide the information you need.

Yes, you're correct. The QuickBooks app is limited in functionality and other features you've used from the browser. If you need to use your iPhone or iPad and need all available features, you can open your QuickBooks Online account in a browser on your iPhone or iPad.

As long as you're accessing your account in a supported browser in QuickBooks, you can do things like what you can on your computer. However, the screen sizes are different. The features are much smaller than that of a standard computer.

Still, you can check the articles shared by my colleague above. You'll get more ideas and tips about the product and the feature availability on supported devices from those articles.

We'll be around if you need anything else with QuickBooks. Just let us know by commenting below. Take care and stay safe always.

@Electrician

Do you need to migrate data from QBD 2020 Mac to QBO US version?

Bear in mind, the conversion tool is unable to migrate the attachment files. You have to migrate it manually. Otherwise, consider purchasing a 3rd party service to convert your data and also ask migrating the attachment files.
