I DO NOT WANT TO UPDATE AT THIS TIME SO THEY WON%27T LET ME IN

Hello, 0940.

I understand how important it is for you to have the flexibility to control automatic updates at your convenience. I acknowledge the impact this has on your workflow and will provide guidance to get you back on track.

Since you've mentioned that your update is currently at 27% and you want to stop it due to being unable to log in, please note that stopping the update process early could potentially affect some files due to the incomplete update.

If you’d still like to move forward, here are the steps to manually end the task:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Right-click on the taskbar or on your keyboard press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, then select Task Manager.
  3. Under the details tab, look for the following background processes to select and End task for each.
    • QBW32.exe or QBW.exe
    • QBCFMonitorService.exe
    • qbupdate.exe
    • QBDBMgr,exe or QBDBMgrN.exe
    • QBMapi32.exe
  4. Right-click on the QuickBooks shortcut and select Run as administrator.

Once you're able to close the patch update, let's proceed to manually turn off the auto-update option in QuickBooks. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. In the Options tab, select No for the Automatic Update option.
  3. Once done, click Close.

You can check the screenshot below for reference:

From there, you'll be able to disable the automatic updates option in QuickBooks moving forward.

Hi there, derricky.

If you're using QuickBooks Desktop 2024 (Plus/Subscription), Intuit has moved toward a forced updates to ensure security and compliance. In some newer versions, the ability to turn off automatic updates is intentionally disabled (greyed out) by the software design to keep your subscription current.

If QuickBooks is not updating as expected despite being set to automatic updates, you can try using the Reset Update option to resolve the issue.

  1. Go to Help and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Go to the Update Now tab.
  3. Check the box for Reset Update.
  4. Click Get Updates. Sometimes "forcing" a fresh update cycle unlocks the greyed-out options in the other tabs once the process finishes.
  5. Click OK.
