I get an error about taxes when I try to enter a paycheck from a previous month - how do I bypass?

Welcome to Community, @tclaymotz74.

I have some information about taxes error. To verify, have you already e-pay your payroll taxes for the previous month? If so, you'll need to contact our Payroll Support to get past the error. This way, you can continue in entering the paycheck.

Here's how to reach out:

  1. Go to Help.
  2. Scroll down and select Contact Us.
  3. Enter a brief description and tap Continue.
  4. Choose either Chat or Callback.

However, if you haven't submitted the tax payment yet, you'll want to delete it first and then create the paycheck. To delete, just go to Taxes and then Payroll Tax.

Additionally, here's a link that covers all the tasks you can do when using our payroll feature.

Keep me posted if you still have questions or concerns with paychecks. I'll be around for you. Take care and have a good one.

Thank you Sheila Grace, but that didn’t work.  The payments aren’t set up as e payments and have not been marked paid.  My client is a very small contractor and literally writes the checks himself and I enter them to track later.  If this feature can’t be turned off I may need to cancel our subscription and find a program that will allow me to use it the way I need to

Providing the best experience with the product is what we aim for, @tclaymotz74.

To make sure we cover every concern you have for entering paychecks from a previous month in QuickBooks Online (QBO), can you specify the tax error you've received? Further details are much appreciated. This way, I can provide the exact resolution for the issue.

In the meantime, I'm adding this article to further guide you in managing your client's payroll account using QBO: QuickBooks Online Payroll Help Articles. It includes topics about prior payroll and accounting preferences, to name a few.

Please don't hesitate to drop a comment below for the details.
