If you're using the GoPayment feature, the option to pay with a Canadian Credit Card is currently unavailable, Lfar. This is designed to accept the zip code of the Merchant account location (US GoPayment and US zip code). I'll assist you in finding an alternative.

I recommend visiting our app market to look for third-party providers that can process payments in currencies other than your local one. Here are the steps to find applications within your QBO account:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Select Apps from the sidebar menu, then go to the Find Apps tab.
  3. Enter a keyword in the search bar or click the Browse category button to filter the results.

Once you've addressed that, consider setting up multicurrency if you need to handle transactions in a different currency. After enabling it, you can manage transactions in various currencies and QuickBooks will automatically handle the multicurrency accounting. Please note, this feature can't be disabled once turned on. For more details on what occurs after activating Multicurrency, check out this resource: Learn about Multicurrency in QuickBooks Online

Once confirm that multi-currency is a fit for your business, here's how to turn it on:

1. Navigate to the Gear icon. Then, select Account and settings.

2. Proceed to Advanced.

3. Click Edit ✎ in the Currency section and pick your Home Currency.

4. Tick the Multicurrency checkbox and acknowledge the permanency of this action. Then, click Save.

Once set up, you’ll be able to manage various currencies.

After receiving a payment from your customer, you'll have to record it in QuickBooks to mark the invoice as paid. Otherwise, the invoice will remain open and marked as unpaid in your reports, leading to unbalanced accounts.

I'm committed to providing you with the best support possible. If you have more questions about processing payments or any other features in QuickBooks, feel free to revisit this thread and I’ll respond promptly.

Does this cost extra money per month of my subscription to handle multi-currencies?

The Multicurrency feature does not incur extra charges from a QuickBooks subscription, lfarwick. However, this is only available for the Essentials, Plus, and Advanced versions. Let's explore how you can utilize it while I provide an alternative if you have a different QuickBooks plan.

The Home currency is based on your business location and is always used in income and expense accounts. To activate Multicurrency, follow the instructions given by @Jessavell_A above if you have Essentials, Plus, or Advanced subscriptions. I'm adding a screenshot for your reference.

Once done, you can add the Canadian Dollar (CAD) currency by following the steps below:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then select Currencies.
  2. Select Add currency.
  3. Choose the new currency from the Add Currency ▼ dropdown.
  4. Select Add.

To learn more about adding an account that uses a foreign currency and designating it to a customer, refer to these articles:

On the other hand, consider upgrading to a new plan if you're using the Simple Start version. I'll show you how.

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as a primary or company admin.
  2. Go to the Gear icon and select Subscriptions and billing.
  3. Ensure your payment info is up to date.
  4. In the QuickBooks Online section, select Upgrade your plan, then Choose plan.
  5. Follow the on-screen steps.

Furthermore, learn about exchange rates or manually enter your own for foreign currency transactions.

Moreover, you can seek assistance from QuickBooks Live Expert Assisted since it involves exchange rates for multicurrency transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance with financial regulations.

Lastly, check out this guide to run a Transaction report or Journal Entry to see unrealized foreign exchange gains or losses: Enter home currency adjustments for your foreign balances.
