Buy nowHey there, Alison. I understand how challenging to see your federal tax return affected by your active vehicles.
You're correct that the primary vehicle cannot be inactivated because it's essential for accurate reporting and calculations. Inactivating this could lead to discrepancies in mileage records.
You can, however, consider editing it up or adjusting the existing one instead and changing the primary vehicle. Feel free to visit this article for more information: Set up vehicles and mileage tracking in QuickBooks Online to use with the mobile app.
I'll also add this article if you wish to check your past e-filed tax forms in QuickBooks: View your previously filed tax forms and payments.

Nope, this doesn't answer my question nor does it solve my problem! Again, how do i remove or deactivate ALL vehicles from Quickbooks? I need to make my primary vehicle INACTIVE or delete it altogether - and there doesn't seem to be a way to do this OR a workaround, but there needs to be a solution. I don't want ANY vehicles listed in my Quickbooks at all. Please advise.
This still doesn't solve my problem or answer my question. I do not use a vehicle and I need to either delete or inactivate the primary vehicle, which is the only thing that's currently in my vehicle options. I haven't seen ONE correct, helpful response to this anywhere online yet or in any of the forums. I don't want ANY vehicles listed in my Quickbooks at all. Please advise
Thanks for following up with the Community, alisonlessard.
You won't be able to mark your current vehicle as inactive if it's set as the primary. You can assign a different vehicle as your primary first, then make the non-primary vehicle inactive.
Here's how:
If you need to reactivate a vehicle, follow the same steps for inactivating vehicles, then select Activate.

How many times do I need to ask the same question? I already added a second vehicle, made the initial primary one inactive, but now I have a NEW primary vehicle, which I also can't deactivate, leaving me with the same problem. I want NO active vehicles. I need them ALL to be inactive, so how do I do that? Or are you saying it's impossible to resolve this? Is it a bug in the software, because this seems ridiculous. I googled in Turbotax that while doing the federal refund, it's possible to remove the Car & Truck Expenses Worksheet in Tax Tools, so I'm wondering if that's the ONLY way to remedy this? Please advise
Hello there, Alison.
This isn't the kind of experience we want you to have when posting your concern about inactivating vehicles in QuickBooks Online (QBO). I appreciate the significant effort you've exerted in resolving this.
My colleagues are correct about the inability to inactivate the primary vehicle set in your QBO. Therefore, there's no way we can inactivate all your vehicles in the file. This is working as designed for accurate reporting and calculations, and to avoid discrepancies in mileage records.
Regarding the workaround, you have found using TurboTax, it's best to contact the application's live support to confirm this with them. That way, we can ensure that we're taking the correct path in taking care of your federal refund.
While considering your preference in managing your vehicles in the application, I encourage you to send your suggestions to our product development team. Your feedback is vital for shaping features that truly meet user needs:
Furthermore, you can follow the steps of downloading your trips to keep a copy outside the application. Here's how:
