I purchase parts used on the job, mark them up, then bill my customer for them. How do I enter the purchase and resale of materials like junction boxes, cable, and etc?

Example: I buy a part from my supplier for a certain job. enter their invoice as an expense. I mark parts up a small percentage then itemise parts on my invoice to my customer. how do I enter parts sales on my invoice?

I’m glad you turn to the Community about your concern, chris_pickering4.

Let me help and guide you on how to enter the items mentioned above in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

We’ll have to utilize the Bundle feature to group items you often sell together. Then use the billable expenses to reimburse the cost.

To add the bundle:

  1. In QBO, tap the Sales menu on the left panel and choose Products and services.
  2. This action will take you to the All Lists page.
  3. From there, click the New button to open the Product/Service information screen.
  4. Tap the Bundle icon and then enter the bundle information in the Name box.
  5. Fill in the remaining field boxes, including the items or parts information.
  6. Press Save and close.

After setting up all the items, turn on the Billable Expenses feature. Here’s an article that will visually guide you through the steps by step process: Enter billable expenses.

Now that we’re done, enter the parts on the invoice. Also, the bundle and its components will show as line items on the entry. For additional information, tap the links below. These resources contain online tutorials and instructions to set a reorder point.
