If I export QB to online can I still use my desktop as well?

If I want to set up QB Online, will I still be able to use the desktop version?  Is there a way to sync these?

From what I understand, it is either one or the other.  The two don't and won't sync, either.

You can still use your desktop version even past the nominal 3 years of dedicated support. There is no syncing between desktop and online - it would be like picking oranges from an apple tree.

If you are contemplating online just to work from home there are other alternatives for you.

Every desktop license can be installed on 2 computers for one person to use not at same time so you could install QB on a laptop.

Remote desktop applications allow you to remotely act as if you are in front of your computer and are not limited to PCs or laptops. In fact I have successfully accessed a desktop QB instsll from a 1st gen ipad.

Self hosting in a VPN using a product similar to Azure from microsoft is one possibility and even Intuit offers hosting services for your desktop companies.

Your local ISP internet service provider may even offer affordable hosting.

Check all those out before you jump to QBO from QBDT

Hey KOAWI. If you export your data from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks online, the data will not sync so you should continue the bookkeeping inside of QBO. Currently there is no way to keep both products in sync with each other.

Here's a great article as well on moving from Desktop to Online that will probably come in handy. If you have any other questions about anything let me know, I'm happy to answer them.

Should you need to access your data file in multi-user mode, consider deploying a private sloud solution. It costs $25/month/access and you may use it in turns between your mobile users.
