Import from Mac Desktop to Online

I just signed up for QB Online and have two different companies.

I had no problem moving the first company over from my Mac 2019 desktop version but the second company is giving and error that the data can't be imported.  I tried rebuilding to no avail. Help!

Hello there, ssekuler.

It's my pleasure to have you here and help you out with your concern. I see that you've got an error during the process of the conversion in the second company.

Some errors may occur when importing data from Mac Desktop to QuickBooks Online, and each of them has different ways to fix it. Let's ensure that we'll not miss one of these tasks:

  • Log in as master admin or company admin in your second QBO account.
  • Make sure to sign in before you import data.
  • Complete the setup interview section. We'll see these questions when we've created a new company.

Also, I'd like to share with you an article wherein the details about fixing errors when converting data from Mac Desktop to QuickBooks Online can be found. It provides an accurate solution for a specific error that you've encountered. Let's try searching a similar error to what you've got. Then, perform the recommended troubleshooting steps to fix it right away.

If you still need a hand in transferring your data to another platform, please don't hesitate to post again. It would be better to include the exact error you've encountered to sort it out on time. Take care and stay safe.

I did setup the company in advance as I figures that out on the first one!

On the MaC side it says the file is ready and then it starts to do the transfer. About 30 seconds in I get and email stating the following

You may have 3 options to resolve it:

1. Run the Verify/Rebuild Data utility

2. Contact Intuit Data Service

3.Purchase a 3rd party file recovery service.

Hi there, @ssekuler.

I can see that you have performed the verify and rebuild method, but it still doesn't work. I'd suggest contacting our live customer care team. With the tools they have, they'll be more efficient in investigating the cause of this error. You should be able to open the file in no time after that. They can also guide you to successfully export your company data file from QuickBooks Desktop Mac to QuickBooks Online.

Here's how to contact them:

  1. Open the QuickBooks app.
  2. Go to Help, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Select Contact Us.
  4. Give a brief description of your issue, then select Let's talk.
  5. Choose the option, Chat with us.

Also, here is the list of data that can and can't be converted from Windows to QBDT for Mac.

By the time your import process in QuickBooks Online is done, you can check out this article: Track your cash flow in QuickBooks Online. This will guide you about the process in QuickBooks Online about your business finances.

You can always tag my name in the comment section below if you have other concerns or questions. I'd be happy to answer them for you. Take care.

Is there a way to do a manual import of data and bypass the auto import?

I fortunately do not update this company on a regular basis so just closed out 2019 and do not have 2020 data entered as of yet so also thought I could just bring in beginning balances for balance sheet account  and start fresh.

Suggestions?

@ssekuler

You may need the trial license of QBD 2019 and a migration tool. i.e TPExporter for Desktop, TPImporter for Online as the workaround.

You may want to consider getting a 3rd party service that have expertise in QB Mac File repair. They should be able to sort this out quickly and affordably.

I am taking over for an account that is currently on QB Mac desktop - I downloaded the free trial version and currently have been trying to convert to OB Online.  It will not work.  Message said to call support and then support said to hang up.  I just need the data out of QB MAC asap.

Does the fact that I am running trial version stop me from doing this?

Thanks for joining this thread, @

Downloading a trial version doesn't affect when you convert your file to QuickBooks Online. Just make sure your computer meets the system requirements. This will ensure the desktop program is compatible with your setup and will help avoid unexpected behavior. Check out this guide to get the link and proceed to the QuickBooks Mac 2021: Download a trial.

Once you’re ready, restore the data file. Then, import your desktop data to the online version. Here’s how:

  1. Open your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac company file.
  2. Go to the File menu to select Export to QuickBooks Online.
  3. Then, log in to your existing QuickBooks Online account using your user ID and password.
  4. Press OK, got it.

The following guide provides insights into the process. It lists all the details to consider before moving the desktop data to the online platform: Converting a Desktop for Mac file to Online.

Also, I'm adding this article on how to fix errors when converting QBDT Mac to QBO. It provides an accurate solution for a specific error that you've encountered: How to fix errors when converting from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

If you're getting some issues with the conversion, our representatives can help you further with this. They can initiate a viewing session and guide you further with the steps.

To contact our support, click this link to initiate a live session: QuickBooks Desktop for Mac chat.

Additionally, I recommend checking these guide pages to learn your ways around the product:

Let me know how it goes. I want to keep track of this conversion topic and make sure it gets taken care of. I'm also here if you ever need further help with any other things in QuickBooks.
