Importing Quicken for Mac into Quickbooks 2020

I have Quicken 2017 for Mac which has moved to a subscription model.  I only use it for tracking expenses (since it could export to turbotax)  but now I'm not using Turbotax.   I would like to import the last 3 years of transactions and bank account connections into Quickbooks 2020 for Mac but I don't see any way of doing that.   Is there a method? I can export to QXF (WIN) or QMTF (mac)  but I don't see an import. Only an IIF but that isn't my file option.

Importing Quicken for Mac into Quickbooks 2020

Hi @jefferis,

I'll lend you a hand with your concern about converting your Quicken for Mac company data to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2020.

You'll have to convert your Quicken for Mac file to Quicken for Windows before you can proceed.

Follow these steps:

  1. Open your Quicken for Mac data file.
  2. Save the .QFX file to a storage media (USB flash drive or CD/DVD) that will allow you to move it to a PC.
  3. Open Quicken for Windows.
  4. Go to the File menu.
  5. Choose New Quicken File.
  6. Select New Quicken File, then press OK.
  7. Enter a name for the file, then hit OK.
  8. Move to the File menu.
  9. Choose Import.
  10. Locate the .QFX file you saved on your storage media.

You can then proceed with using the QuickBooks 2020 Converter utility to convert your Quicken data file to QBDT 2020. Take a look at this article for the steps: Convert Quicken data to QuickBooks Desktop.

Additionally, if you wish to convert the company file to QuickBooks for Mac, see this article for the steps: Convert a QuickBooks for Windows file to QuickBooks for Mac. Other than the steps for conversion, you'll see a list of data that will be converted, and the ones that aren't included.

Feel free to drop a comment below if you have other questions. I'll be sure to get back to you.

@jefferis

As mentioned by Ryan_M, you will need a Windows machine to convert your Quicken data file to QB. Last resort, consider purchasing a 3rd party conversion service.

thanks guys

I can run windows on my mac, but can I use a trial QB for windows to do this conversion?   I don't want to buy another version just to do the import.     ALSO, do you know if this will import my bank info to do online downloads? Or will that have to be reentered by hand?

TIA,

Jeff

You may utilize the trial license of QB 2020 Pro and QB 2020 Mac to convert your file.

Once you are happy with it, you can purchase the license of QB 2020 Mac later. You may purchase QB 2020 Mac 1 user for $300 directly or around $200 thru a partner/reseller.

Importing Quicken for Mac into Quickbooks 2020

I have a major question here. Looking at the steps to convert the file back to QB 2020 for Mac from QB Windows, it appears that it creates a complete company file. That is a problem in that I already have a company file on QB for Mac. I have all my customers and accounts, scheduled invoicing, etc.  I don't want to replace any of that. What I want to be able to do is import my expenses and bank/credit card information.

You see, for years, QB did not export  to Turbotax on the Mac, when I did my own taxes.  Now it doesn't matter.  I can keep Quicken 2017 as an historical record of my purchases up till May 1, but after that, it will not download new transactions. So I either have to start tracking in QB or I have to pay a subscription for Quicken.

SO, is there a way to export only bank info and expenses to IMPORT into my existing Company file?

You may import data into QB Desktop Windows by using the 3rd party tool. Unfortunately there is no such app supporting QBD Mac.
