In the employee section QB freezes up moving from 1 employee to next

I have just upgraded to the 2019 QB Desktop Pro from 2016 and everything seems to work but when I am in the employee section it freezes up when I move from 1 employee to the next. The only way to unfreeze is to ctl atl del and close entire program. I have reinstalled and ran a rebuild.

Thanks for letting me know about the issue you're getting, @HollyK.

I appreciate all the steps you've done to get this working. I'm here to help get rid of this freezing issue in your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Pro 2019.

Since you just updated to 2019 version, one of the possible reasons why this happens is that your program files or QBDT installation may be damaged. To isolate this, try running the QBRefresher Tool. This ends QB processes running in the background and also performs a mini repair. Here's how:

1. Close all your QB Company file, then download the Tool.
2. Save it on your desktop.
3. Run the tool and re-open QuickBooks.

Once logged in, try to navigate your Employee Center again to double-check. If the issue persists, let's run the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool (QBInstall Tool). This will help us identify any component issues related to the program. Here's how:

1. Download the QuickBooks Install DiagnosticTool.

2. When prompted, save the file to the local Desktop, then close any open programs and run the QBInstall Tool.

3. Once done, restart the computer to ensure the components are properly updated.

This is happening to me and I tried the solutions you provided. It freezes up immediately once I enter the employee center. Any other suggestions?

Hi there, @POPBooks.

To make sure I can provide the best resolution, I need some additional details like specific steps you’ve done to resolve the issue. While I wait for your reply, let’s try performing some new ones to help you get back on track.

You can start by renaming the QBWUSER.INI file. This erases the list of the previously opened company data.

To perform this task, check out the steps I provided below.

  1. Open the folder where the QBWUSER.ini file is saved:  \Users\[Your user name]\AppData\Local\Intuit\QuickBooks e.g. 2019.
  2. If you’re unable to see the folder, enable the hidden files and folders.
  3. Right-click beside the QBWUSER.ini file and choose Rename.
  4. You can add .old at the end of the file name. For example, QBWUSER.ini.old.
  5. Modify the EntitlementDataStore.ecml file.

After completing these steps, open QuickBooks and follow the instructions on how to register the software. However, if you’ve already performed this troubleshooting as well as the ones in the Solutions for when QuickBooks stops working article, I suggest contacting our Technical Support Team.

They can view the company set up in a secure environment. Our support team can also perform a screen-sharing session to identify the cause and assist you on how to apply the permanent fix.

This should help you move forward. Let me know how it goes after contacting them by leaving a comment below. Please know I’m always here ready to help.
