Intuit Payment Account - change owner

I've recently become the owner of a business that has an Intuit payments merchant account. The merchant account is in the previous business owner's name, but I need to put it in my name. I've been told by Intuit the only way I can have the merchant account in my name is to open a new account. However, the business is fully functioning and there are many open invoices using the previous owner's merchant account that need to remain valid. What is the best way to handle this transition? I don't want the past transactions to no longer have a valid payment link and I can't wait until all invoices are paid to connect my merchant account to the books as this would take over a month to happen.

The bank lets me put the accounts in my name. QB Payroll lets me change the name of the primary owner to be me. Why can't the merchant account be put in my name?

Thank you,

Heather

Intuit Payment Account - change owner

I'd be glad to help you change the owner of the account,  BakerLab-HM.

There's an option to log in to the Intuit Account User Management site and set your self as the new primary admin of the account. Here's how:

  1. Sign in to Intuit Account User Management from a web browser.
  2. Select the company file or account that you’d like to transfer, then select Continue. (see more in Set up and use Intuit account user management article)
  3. Proceed to the Users tab and select the current primary admin. Then, go the Action column and select Change primary admin.
  4. Click the drop-down list and select your name. Select the checkbox to verify you’ll become secondary admin.
  5. Select Verify.
  6. Sign in using your Intuit account info. Then, confirm the invite by selecting OK.

Aside from that, you can also log in to the Merchant account and make the changes from there. Here's how:

  1. Log in to the Merchant Center as an admin.
  2. Click the drop-down list beside Account, then select Account Profile.
  3. Go to the Account Holder/Business Information section, then click Edit.
  4. Enter your information as the new owner of the account.
  5. Click Submit.

Just in case you can't log in or make changes to the account, you can submit a request to be the new primary admin.

Go to this article and fill out the required information:  Request to be the Primary Admin or Contact.

Intuit Payment Account - change owner

Thank you, but I've already done the primary user change. This is specifically referring to the Intuit Payments account, also known as Intuit Merchant Account.

The previous owner of the business has a merchant account through Intuit that is connected to the QB Desktop Pro Plus 2022 subscription. I need to update the merchant account to be in my name.

Please advise - thank you.

Intuit Payment Account - change owner

Hello there, @BakerLab-HM1.

If you want to change the business information of the account connected in QuickBooks Payments into your QuickBooks Desktop account, here's what you'll need to do:

  2. From the menu, select Account.
  3. Click Account Profile.
  4. Go to the Account Holder/Business Information section.
  5. Select Edit.
  6. Change your business information as desired.
  7. Click Submit.

Please know that these are the following information that you can change:

  • Legal Business Name
  • Doing Business As (DBA) - the name your customers see on their receipts. This must match the name on your deposit bank account.
  • Industry type
  • Ownership type
  • Tax ID
  • Website address

However, if you want to change the name subscribed under the Merchant account, I suggest reaching out to our Merchant Services Team. They have direct access to your account and will provide further details in updating the name.
