Why does Intuit keep jacking up their fees in general but why are ACH fees going up? About a year ago, ACH was free, now I pay about $1.50 per transaction. I just received an email which tells me ACH of $2,000 and above will be $20 flat! That's the price of an old fashioned wire! So I went from $0, to $1.50 to a staggering $20 (a 1333% jump) in per transaction fees in less that 2 years. How on earth can that possibly be justified?? This is the "hold a gun to the customer's yeah" SaaS model.

If you are B2B, you can use a 3rd party processor to accept ACH payments for free.

I'm not sure their thought process on this one. New subscribers don't get the $20 cap, they're charged 1% with no cap. $50 to pay a $5,000 bill via ACH? Not a chance. And, you know that cap will be gone at some point. There are many other options out there.
Bill.com charges a flat $0.49 per ACH transaction and their monthly fee of $19/user (Bill.com Essentials) gives you more functionality than QB Payments. Their software scans and enters the bills for you and is very good at it. It also offers unlimited document storage for A/P.
Melio is another option but their "free" plan limits you to 5 free ACH transactions/month and 10 syncs. After that it's still only $0.50 per ACH and if you need to do more than 10 syncs/month, you can upgrade to their Core plan at ~$25/mo. Either way, you're in the black if you're processing just ~$3,000/month. I'm sure there are other options as well.
It all comes down to GREED. QB is top tier greedy.
There is NO way to justify charging what they do for ANYTHING, other than the fact that people refuse to stop using them, and go somewhere else. (Which, yes, that IS an option).
@Just_me My tech guy actually suggested Foundation or Encode as accounting software alternatives earlier today; haven't had time to look into them yet, though.
Unfortunately, as much as I do enjoy Desktop, the writing seems to be on the walls.
From what I understand, Foundation is geared more toward construction. At least last I heard.
I don't know anything about Encode.
@Just_me From what he said, Encode is somehow involved in the state of Ohio's accounting systems.
Admittedly, given my experience with Ohio's websites, that isn't exactly encouraging, but I'm hoping it's just part of the accounting process in spite of the name.
That probably explains why I can't find anything about it. Lol

@Chea yes and I realized I wasn't quite right in what I initially said. The original integration Intuit used was Melio. They were free to a limit but even at their top tier it was significantly less than what Intuit are charging. Melio was displaced when Intuit wrote their own interface (and it's not that great even now ... I had to pay my accountant to sort out a mess it created) which is where the problem of charges all started.
So I explored options yesterday as you suggest. And yes! Melio is still available for the same pricing as before however it is as an QB app. But there it all is, all your vendor bills listed and you can pay there, just like we did before.
So, same great solution as before, at same reasonable pricing; Intuit just making it more clumsy to get to. But this is what I'll do now. Super easy to integrate, just use your Intuit credentials. Accessible via the app menu in QB or directly at https://app.melio.com/melio

Great advice. Thanks @Rainflurry !
