Inventory between a warehouse and retail shop

Hello!

I'm a QBO Plus user.

I have a retail shop where I sell my products, and a store/warehouse where I keep the bulk of my goods. I am a retailer of steel of small scale welders.

Could anyone suggest the best way to setup QBO so that I have;

1. Two separate inventory readings for the retail shop and warehouse. ie if I click on Item X I will have inventory readings for both locations?

2. Setup in such a way that when goods are taken from the warehouse and shifted to the retail shop, the inventory level data is automatically updated on both locations?

Thank you in advance guys!

Inventory between a warehouse and retail shop

Hello there, @yasbas. It's nice to hear from you.

When recording an inventory item in QuickBooks Online, you can only assign a class and enter amount, category and other details. Please take a look at the steps and sample screenshot below.

  1. Go to Sales on the left panel.
  2. In the Product and Services tab, click New.
  3. Enter the item details.
  4. Then, Save.

To use locations between a warehouse and retail shop, you'll only need to enter a location when you create a transaction for the item. For example, you create an invoice. You'll only need to include the location of the transaction. This helps you categorize data from different locations or offices and lets you see all the payments for one location and deposit them as a group.

In case you haven't enabled the Location feature yet, you can go to the Account and Settings to activate it. Here's how:

  1. Go to Setting. Then, select Account and Settings.
  2. Select Advanced.
  3. In the Categories section, select the Edit icon.
  4. Select the checkbox to track locations.
  5. Select Save, then Done.

Inventory between a warehouse and retail shop

Hello SarahannC,

Thank you for your input, however it doesn't help solve my issue.

I was not very clear so I'll provide a little more detail.

The Retail Shop is the only POS location. The Warehouse is purely for the storage of goods. When inventory is low at the Retail Shop the Warehouse replenises inventory at the Retail Shop. Therefore sales/invoicing only originates from the Retail Shop.

However from a stock control/inventory point of view I will naturally have two different stock quantity values at two different locations for the same item. If I transfer stock from the warehouse to the shop then naturally stock in warehouse goes down and stock in shop will go up. Overall stock/inventory count will remain the same though until goods are sold.

So far I cannot find a way to enact this in QBO or a workaround. I know quickbooks desktop was a multiple location feature for this purpose but that is not in the cloud and remote access is key for me - without breaking the bank.

I know its complicated. :-(

QBO doesn't support multi warehouse. Consider having an additional app to integrate with your QBO.

Hello user491129284!

I'd like to thank you for joining this thread. Let me assist you in handling your inventory.

Please note that QuickBooks Online doesn't support multi-warehouse/store for inventory tracking. This feature is only available in QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise. You can check the details here: Multiple Inventory Sites.

You can either sign up for another QuickBooks Online account or use a third-party application that can manage multi-store inventory. Visit the Apps menu to see all supported third-party applications.

I've included this link if you need steps in running financial reports: Run reports in QuickBooks Online.
