Is there a way for a bin to be deleted/taken off of from an item?

If an item has multiple bin locations (ex. Aisle 2, 2-1, & A 2), and I only want to use the bin Aisle 2, is there a way to get rid of any of the extra bins that are no longer in use from the location?

The person who originally set up our company created Bins in our warehouse (location 1) that we do not need. Because of this some of our items have multiple bin locations, and when receiving the items & doing sales orders, sometimes someone will click the wrong bin. Because of this we have random quantities in many different bins.

Hello proguardmike,

We cannot directly delete a bin if it is assigned or associated to a transaction. We can make it inactive instead. Otherwise, we can delete it easily. Here's how to delete or make the bins inactive:

  1. Click Lists at the top menu and select Inventory Site List.
  2. Look for the bins you want to make inactive.
  3. Right-click on the bin and select Delete Bin Location.
  4. If you cannot directly delete the bin, you can either:
       • remove the bins from the transactions and delete it afterwards.
       • make the bins inactive.
  5. Right-click on the bin and select Make Bin Location Inactive.

You can also use this link for reference about inventory sites: Multiple Inventory Sites.

Feel free to get back to me if you have additional queries about this feature. Have a great day!

Is there a way for a bin to be deleted/taken off of from an item?

Hi - We have found the the de-activated BIN still shows up as a default each time an invoice or bill is created.  We have tried renaming (to be lower in the alphabet), re-sorting, etc.  Nothing works.  Is this a bug in QB?

Hello there, @susieschade.

Let me step in and assist you with your concern today.

Instead of making your BIN inactive, you can manually delete it. This way it'll not show when creating an invoice or bill. First, remove the BIN from the transaction. Since the inventory site that is used in transactions cannot be deleted.

You can delete the invoice or the bill you created where the deactivated BIN shows up. Here's how:

  1. Go either the Vendor or Customer menu.
  2. Select Vendor or Customer Center.
  3. Look for the transactions.
  4. Right-click the bill or invoice you want to delete and choose Edit transactions.
  5. Click the Delete icon.
  6. Select the Delete option.
  7. Hit the Save and Close button.

Once done, you can now delete the BIN by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Item menu.
  2. Choose the Inventory Site List tab.
  3. Look for the bin you want to delete.
  4. Right-click the bin section, then select Delete Inventory Site.
  5. Click Yes.
