Our CPA has suggested that at the beginning of 2023, we switch over to using QuickBooks Desktop fully. We've been using QuickBooks Online since 2012, and it's what we're the most familiar with. He keeps saying that we can do things in QBD that we can't in QBO, but he hasn't given super specific examples of this.
If we switch to QBD, we could use the QBD payroll element as well, which would be nice. Or, we could stick with QBO and use Gusto or something for payroll. Is there a reason why we would go to QBD?
Thank you for laying out the details of your concern, @EthanDale.
I’d be glad to provide insights about the available features when migrating from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.
QBO and QBDT are two different kinds of products that have unique features. To see the various features available in every version of QBDT, feel free to visit this link and scroll down below to see the comparison chart: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/desktop/enterprise/resources/upgrade-to-enterprise/comparison-charts/
Also, when moving from QBO to QBDT, there are differences in how your books appear that you may notice. To provide you with detailed information on what data doesn’t come over after converting, see this article: Learn how features and data move from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.
Moreover, I’ve got these great resources that can guide you further when you’re ready to move your data from QBO to QBDT:

You should ask your CPA specific questions and urge him to provide answers. You can forward his responses to this community and let others give feedbacks. You can use a 3rd party payroll app to integrate with QBO. If your CPA refuses to give any reason, something suspicious.
