Item Setup Templates

Is there a way to create an item template to make creating similar items easier?  Let me explain...  Our staff create a number of inventory items that are similar other than the item name and description.  In other words, many of the items end up using the same UOM as well as the same Sales Account, COGS Account and Inventory Account (as well as other fields).  I thought it would help save input keystrokes if you could setup or memorize an item template they could pull up a template, edit the name & description, and then save as another item.  This would also help ensure that the correct GL accounts are used so they would have to enter them each time.  Or... Is there a way to copy an item and edit it similar to how you can copy transactions.

Yes, there's a way to copy an item and edit it similar to how you can copy transactions, BernieJ.

You can use the Add/Edit Multiple List Entries feature to edit multiple inventory items. Then, copy and paste the list from Excel into QuickBooks using this feature.

Here's how:

  1. Click Lists on the top menu.
  2. Select Add/Edit Multiple List Entries.
  3. Tick the List drop-down and choose Inventory Parts.
  4. Tap View drop-down and select All Inventory Items.
  5. Edit an entry in any field to make some changes.
  6. Highlight the desired field and right click then choose Copy Down. This will copy the data in a specific field to the remaining records.
  7. Hit Save Changes.

To learn more about how to edit multiple lists, just check out this article: Add and edit multiple customers, vendors, and items. Then, go to To Add/Edit Multiple List Entries: section.

I've got a link here where you can find articles about managing your inventory items: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/inventory/07?product=QuickBooks%20Enterprise%20Sui....
