Job Cost

Hello,

I am trying to create a new Quickbooks Desktop file with start date 1/1/2021 from a previous file. My question is how do I transfer the information from open jobs to the new file? Do I have to re-create the jobs in the new QB file? The jobs that won't be completed by year-end, I would like to have them in the new file to track, bill and complete. Thanks.

Thanks for visiting us here today, @CN2483.

I have some information about transferring customer information. In QBDT, you can the export job type list and then import it to your new file. Let me walk you through how.

To export:

  1. Open your old company file.
  2. Go to the File menu at the top.
  3. Select Utilities, and then hit Export.
  4. Choose from the list you want to export (see the attached image below.)
  5. Click OK.

After exporting, open your new file and import the list. Here's how:

  1. Go to the File menu at the top.
  2. Select Utilities, and then hit Import
  3. Choose Import IIF file. Then, the Import IIF button.
  4. Choose the location. Then, Open.
  5. Click OK.

Once done, check your customer and job information. For more information about export and import list, check out this guide: Export, import, and edit IIF files.

Let me know if you still have questions or concerns. I'll be around to help. Take care and have a great day ahead.

If you are not familiar with IIF, you may utilize a 3rd party migration tool.
