Job Costing

Our company is working towards implementing work orders and tracking jobs more efficiently.  We also want to sanitize our internal documents on the shop floor of Customer Names and gravitate towards using customer numbers instead. I created a Custom Field under the additional info tab for a customer to test using this indicator on the work order. I went in and created a customized template for a "work order" per the instructions on the quickbooks discussion however my custom column for my "customer number" field is looking for an item to be associated with it.  I'm hoping that there is a way to select my customer via the customer number without setting up items.   If anyone can assist I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: Job Costing

Hello there, @PhoenixLisah.

Let me show you how to select your customer via customer number, and add a number field to your template.

Since you entered the customer number in the customer's profile, you can search and select them using the Find tool.

Here's how:

  1. From the Customers menu, select Customer Center
  2. In the Search field, enter the customer number.
  3. Click the Magnifying glass icon.

Additionally, since that number is added in the custom fields, this option is available under Header in your template

Here's how:

  1. Click Lists.
  2. Select Templates.
  3. Click the Templates drop-down, then select New
  4. Choose the Sales Order radio button and click OK.
  5. Click Additional Customization.
  6. Under the Header tab, find Customer. The Title should show customer number.
  7. From the Customer header, mark the Screen or Print checkbox.
  8. Click OK.

Capture 2.PNG

If the program asks for an item to be associated with that field, ensure the name (customer number) in the template is the same in the customer's profile. It's possible the name is changed that's why you're getting a prompt.
