Join nowHello all,
I am trying to create the job profitability report, but my boss wants the dates the jobs were completed to show as a separate column on the report. Is there a filter that will do that for me? Or do I have to click on each individual job to see the date it was completed and enter that manually into a spreadsheet? Some of the jobs were pre-paid in 2019, but our company was billed for the products we sold to the customer in 2020, so one particular job is showing as a negative percentage.
Thanks!

Hello there, angelawilson.
You'll have to use two reports so you'll be able to get the information you want. Run the Job Profitability Summary report to view those jobs that are completed depending on the status. You can follow the steps below.
Once done, you can manually pull up the Transaction Detail report to check for dates when the invoice was fully paid. Here's how:
In case you have further questions, you can check out these help articles for your reference: Reports And Accounting.

Thank you. This answered my question. I appreciate you taking the time to help me out.
I have a similar issue. Job Profitability Summary gives me most of what i need, but I would like an added column with the invoice date. There is no way to do this. Can we request that column be added as a customization switch? The lack of this information seems short-sighted on behalf of QuickBooks.
Is there an aftermarket report writer that works with Quick Books?
Hi @jbrynda,
I'll take care of this query about the Job Profitability Summary report in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
On the Job ProfitabilitySummary report page, you have the option to change the Columns drop-down menu. The default is set to Total only, though you can change it to add more columns to the report.
You can also click on the amounts to drill down for additional information. This way, you'll see the invoice dates you'll need.
I'll share this article with you for reference: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop. Additional details on how you can customize reports in QBDT, along with related links to this topic.
Post a reply in the section below if you have other questions about reports in QBDT. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
"You can also click on the amounts to drill down for additional information. This way, you'll see the invoice dates you'll need. "
I want a date to appear in a column alongside the data. I don't want to have to drill into each line item record - that's a ton of work. Thank you for your reply, but it doesn't resolve my issue.
Thank you for getting back to this thread, @jbrynda.
I understand how it would help you to add information in the column alongside the data. However, this option is not available. As a workaround, you can click the amount of the invoice so you’ll be able to see the date.
I appreciate for sharing this suggestion. Rest assured that I’ll pass along this idea to our product developer.

I can not find " Jobs and mileage " menu option!! to run project profitabiltiy report
Let's make sure you'll be able to run reports for jobs and mileage, marjanbastani.
In QuickBooks Online (QBO), projects works along with the time tracking payroll, payroll, and billable expenses features to give you an accurate look at the profitability of each job, including income, expenses, profit margin, and time worked.
For mileage, you'll want to turn on the mileage tracking in your mobile app to track business mileage for multiple vehicles. Then, add vehicles to QuickBooks. Next, click on the View Vehicle Link in the Mileage Dashboard so you'll be routed to a page where you can see a list of vehicles you've used to track your business-related mileage information. I've added a screenshot for your visual guide:
For more information, please read this article for your guide: Set Up Mileage Tracking and Vehicles In QuickBooks Online.
Aside from that, you can run reports outside the Projects feature, if you're unable to see some of your data from there. You'll have to make sure to customize them so you'll be able to get the information you need. Learn from this article for your guide: Customize Reports In QuickBooks Online.

somehow, QB staff manages to miss the question and always give completely off answers. This is frustrating.
Please before answer any question, read the question and all the above links to understand the concern befoe giving out an answer!!!
It isn't the kind of experience we want you to have, @marjanbastani. I've read your original post, and I'm here to share with you some additional information while running the Project Profitability Report.
The Job, Time & Mileage menu is available through the Reports tab when you're using QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). From there, you can click on Job Profitability Summary or Detail to get the information you need.
If you don't see that option, I recommend opening your QBDT file as a master administrator or user with permission to access reports. The restrictions may affect the issue of why you don't see Job, Time & Mileage from there.
In case you're using QuickBooks Online (QBO), follow these steps:

I have online version, and I do see the profit report. The question is to get all the projects in one report. Which actually I was able to do that, but it looks awful. Way too many things there that I can not filter out. So I had to download to excel and I will have to spend alot of time, to make that more readable.
the report is not designed for multiple projects, seems like unfortunately.
