Korean language support in Quickbooks

I installed Quickbooks 2016 US version in my windows 10 desktop (with Win10 region setting to Korean).

When I type in Quickbooks in Korean (e.g. say enter new customer 한국), once I click OK, it turns into ??

2nd problem I'm having is that I imported older version of Quickbooks (2004) data file into QB2016.  Korean characters show up as messed up (° Á¤¿¹)

Quickbooks online version seems to support Korean language OK if I enter them from scratch.  However, if I import this converted file (from QB 2004 to QB 2016 then exported to QB online), existing Korean characters are still messed up.

Korean language support in Quickbooks

Hello, @pro2022.

Let me share some information on how you can deal with a foreign language in QuickBooks Desktop.

QuickBooks Desktop requires the Windows regional settings to be set to the locale version of QuickBooks that you're using. However, you'd want to make sure that your QuickBooks software is updated to the latest version. This way, you'd be able to successfully import your converted file.

On the other hand, you can follow the steps below to change the Region and Language settings to have had it displayed in a specific foreign language character.

  1. On your keyboard, press Windows+R to open the run command.
  2. Type in Control panel and select OK.
  3. Choose Clock, Language, and Region, then select Change Location.
  4. From the Home Location (Current Location in Windows), select a specific country (ex. South Korea).
  5. On the Administrative tab, select Change System Locale.
  6. Pick South Korea

  7. Select Apply and click OK.
  8. Restart the computer.

You can leave a reply below if you have other questions about migrating your company file from QBDT to QBO. I’ll be more than happy to help you out. Have a great and wonderful day ahead!

Korean language support in Quickbooks

ok I was able to get Korean characters displayed by following the steps in Quickbooks desktop (2016).  I took this and exported to Quickbooks online.  However, when I log on to quickbooks online website, Korean characters are messed up although they showed OK in the desktop version.  Is there something I can do to fix this?

Korean language support in Quickbooks

Hello there, @pro2022.

Let me share some insights about the languages supported in QuickBooks Online.

Currently, this is limited to some international versions only.

Supported languages:

  • English
  • Chinese
  • Français/French
  • Italiano/Italian
  • Español/Spanish

That's why you're getting this kind of characters changed when converting the data from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

Since every business has unique needs, especially in importing data, I recommend visiting the Apps Center. From there, you can choose one of the software applications that will help you import data files from QuickBooks Desktop with a different language.

Additionally, you can Google something like "convert data with Korean characters from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online" to look for other conversion software. However, please be careful when choosing one to avoid compromising your data's security.

Feel free to reach us again if you have additional questions. I'll keep my notifications open. Stay safe and well!
