Laptop suggestions for Quickbooks ?

Hello guys,

I am planning to purchase a new laptop to use at my shop.

Most of my tasks are usually inside the web browser, but I use Quickbooks and I am bit skeptical about its support. Is i5 processor enough for it or do I need to get i7?

I am currently using an all in one PC with i7 which says dual core in My computer properties. It's pretty old and it has started giving me trouble now so I am looking to replace it with a reliable laptop.

I am currently looking at this HP Spectre and it looks good to me - https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/pdp/hp-spectre-x360-laptop-14t-ea000-touch-1q881av-1

Can anyone confirm if it's a good laptop for $1050 and will it support Quickbooks?

I am not completely sold for it so if you have better laptop suggestions then please let me know. I want touchscreen, good battery life and reliable build quality.

Preferably under $1000 but can go up to $1200.

Thanks in advance.

Laptop suggestions for Quickbooks ?

Hi there, Bill.

Thanks for posting your concern here in the Community.

There are many good laptops and desktop PCs that you may use to get the most out of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

You just need to make sure the laptop or desktop computer meets the minimum system requirements for the QBDT program. This will ensure the system is compatible with your setup and help avoid any possible issues when installing and using it in the future.

To learn on how to install QuickBooks Desktop, you can check out this article: Install QuickBooks Desktop

You can also  refer to these articles about the operating system, hardware, software, and other requirements to run QBDT:

I'm also adding this article to further guide you in managing the growth of your business using QBDT: QuickBooks Help Articles. It includes topics about account management, banking, and expenses, to name a few. You can click the + More topics button to view other selections.

One thing for sure, you should avoid to run Win 11 until Q2 2022. If you decide to purchase a specific unit, make sure you can still use Win 10 until Q2 2022 (minimum) and eligible upgrading to Win 11 for free next year. You can also still purchase a one time license of QBD 2021 to save money.

Thanks for sending the system requirements. If I am comparing the specs right, I think that HP is probably good option for me.

Thanks for recommending the list of laptops to consider. I think I like the Surface Laptop 4 from it, but the Surface Laptop 4 on Amazon says that it comes with Windows 11.

Also, just checked the specs sheet of the HP convertible I was considering buying and it also comes with Windows 11.

Where to buy these laptops with Windows 10?

You should be able to clean install Windows 10 with the Windows 11 OEM license key that the PC comes with - so should not have to buy another license or disc as you can make your own Windows 10 Install USB/CD using Windows 10 MCT or other sources.

Then later you should be able to upgrade to W11 when you want to.

Hey Bill

QuickBooks isn't that hardware taxing software so you won't need much expensive laptop to run it. In your budget of $1000, there are lot of great options but I think you'll be OK with much affordable machine. Consider the Dell Inspiron 15 5515 for about $700. It offers great performance and battery life and it is also a very good looking and well built laptop with touchscreen display.

Refer to this site before you purchase, it has some great laptop recommendations for QuickBooks - https://laptopunderbudget.com/best-laptops-for-quickbooks/

That Dell looks great for the price and its weight is also just a little bit more than HP. I think it's a great laptop but it also comes with Windows 11. Do you have any idea about Windows 11 having issues with QuickBooks?

In my opinion, Windows 11 is the most stable new Windows version release ever. Generally new Windows updates are really painful, but compared to previous year's major updates (Windows 10, 8, 7), Windows 11 is quite stable.

I use Windows 11 on my daily machine, which gets used for a lot more intensive tasks than just managing my business finance on QuickBooks and I must say that Windows 11 is giving me much fewer problems than I expected. And, to be honest, QuickBooks has never given me any problems on Windows 11, so you shouldn't worry about it.

Go with either HP Spectre or Dell Inspiron 15, both are great machines for price for QuickBooks. One more thing that you should consider between these laptops is the keyboard. HP Spectre 13, being a smaller 13-inch device, does not have Numpad, whereas Dell Inspiron 15 have it.

I personally find keyboards with Numpad quite handy to input numbers.

Thank you so much for this reassuring reply. I totally forgot to check about the Numpad on the HP. My current all in one PC's keyboard has the dedicated numpad and I just realized that I use it a lot. I think I will probably buy the Dell Inspiron 15 5515 now because it fits the bill quite right.
