Lost 4 years of reconciliations after migrating from 2009 Desktop to 2015 Desktop

Hi there,

I recently migrated from 2009 QB desktop to 2015 QB desktop. (I bought it in 2015 and just never got around to migrating until recently, and didn't really use the 'new' 2015 version until recently, and since i paid for it, figured I'd just use it.)

For the most part things seemed to come over rather smoothly.

There were two things that seemed funny, social security numbers and bank account numbers had to be cleared and typed back down (edit account info). That went well.

A few times I have been prompted to rebuild and verify data, that seemed to go well.

Now I'm doing my first reconciliation since the migration for oct 2020 and based on the very large number of transactions in the window from past years....It appears 2015-2019 has gotten unreconciled!

I can't possibly go back and re-reconcile all that information.

How can I clear all these transactions out of the way so it doesn't disturb my numbers moving forward, and so i don't have to weed through 4 years of transactions everytime I do a current reconcilation?

Best,

Abbie

Lost 4 years of reconciliations after migrating from 2009 Desktop to 2015 Desktop

Thanks for checking in with u, Abbield.

There may be times when transactions you already reconciled show up as unreconciled. There are a few reasons why this happens and among these are the following:

  • Someone undid the last reconciliation.
  • Someone changed or deleted the reconciled transactions.
  • Cleared transactions were unchecked (uncleared) in the account register.
  • Funds were transferred from a previously reconciled bank account to a sub-account.
  • Company file conversions can cause issues (from QuickBooks for Mac to Windows or QuickBooks Online to Desktop) (US only).
  • The transactions were never reconciled in the company file. This might be because the file was restored from a backup, which can overwrite data and reconciliations.

We can do a special reconciliation, also sometimes called a "mini reconciliation," to fix these issues. This method uses an "off-cycle" reconciliation date to make correction. Also, this assumes you know the ending balance from the most recent reconciliation. Let's get this information before you start. Here' show:

  1. Go to the Banking menu and choose Reconcile.
  2. Select the bank account with the transactions you need to reconcile.
  3. In the Date of Statement field, enter the date for an "off-cycle reconciliation." This date can be any date between your last reconciliation and the next scheduled one. When entering an "off-cycle" date, QuickBooks will remind you that you're doing a mini reconciliation. This puts previously unreconciled transactions back without affecting the "cycle" that they follow.
  4. In the Ending Balance field, enter the balance of your last successful reconciliation.
  5. Press Continue.
  6. In the Reconcile window, check off the transactions you are fixing and re-reconciling.
  7. Make sure the Difference field shows $0.00.
  8. Press Reconcile Now.

If this option is not the best for your business, I'd suggest contacting our Technical Support Team. They'll pull up your account in a secure environment and help you with restoring the company file with the correct files so there' no need for you to reconcile the missing data. My responses noted with bold itallics. Thank you for your suggestions.

  • Someone undid the last reconciliation. NOPE
  • Someone changed or deleted the reconciled transactions. NOPE
  • Cleared transactions were unchecked (uncleared) in the account register. NOPE
  • Funds were transferred from a previously reconciled bank account to a sub-account. NOPE
  • Company file conversions can cause issues (from QuickBooks for Mac to Windows or QuickBooks Online to Desktop) (US only). MAYBE
  • The transactions were never reconciled in the company file. This might be because the file was restored from a backup, which can overwrite data and reconciliations. NOPE

The mini reconciliation sounds like it might work. I've seen it recommended to do a separate reconciliations for each year one is trying to fix. Does this matter for my situation?

I spoke to a support agent first, because I'm also getting a myriad of error messages I have to fix upon opening the company file and because I wanted your advice on doing one big reconciliation for the past or if i need to split it into years. I also figured there might be more issues I wasn't yet aware of so decided to have them isolate and repair my file as you suggested. Well, since my license is so old, even though I never used it, they won't help me aside from sending me articles. She sent me an article about "resolve-common-issues-on-previous-reconciliation-report"

Lost 4 years of reconciliations after migrating from 2009 Desktop to 2015 Desktop

Hi Abbield, thanks for getting back to us.

The unreconciled transactions and other issues may happen when your 2009 company file has been damaged before migrating to QuickBooks Desktop 2015.

We can go back to your 2009 file. Then, make sure it is not carrying any issues or damage. To do this, we can run the Verify and Rebuild to fix data issues. Once done, it's required to migrate to the closer version from 2009 before converting it to 2015. This will also avoid you from file damage.

Secure a backup file of your QBD 2009 data and restore it on QuickBooks 2015. Also, you can upgrade your file on the trial license for QuickBooks Desktop prior to opening it on QBD 2015.

If you need further assistance in migrating your file, our phone support can help you in a prompt manner. They can review and make sure you won't miss a step throughout the process. Please consider following the steps shared when contacting our specialist.

Still, you can check these added articles for additional reference about reconciling accounts:

Lost 4 years of reconciliations after migrating from 2009 Desktop to 2015 Desktop

Hi

I cannot go back to my 2009 file, my program and the computer are gone. Plus I've entered so much data since the conversion its not worth it.

I have verified, and rebuilt many times. I have individually fixed 6000 errors. I have used the quickbooks tool him to: quickfix my file, quick fix my program, ran the pdf repair tool, qb program diagnostic tool.

The only one I can't get it to run is Run QB file doctor. It refuses my password everytime. I am confident about my password because I used it everyday and it works.

Is this a common problem?

Again no one will talk to me on the phone until I update to 2020.
