Mass update Sale Account and retroactively

I am on QB Enterprise Gold, I am a manufacturer with Inventory Parts and Assemblies. I have the Chart of Accounts set up with several Sales, COGS and Inventory Accounts that align with Profit lines in the business.

I am attempting to retroactively, en mass, update the Sales and COGS accounts for a particular set of Inventory Items. I am familiar with the Add/Edit Multiple List Entries. I have opened it, selected the Inventory Part items I'd like to update and updated the Sales and COGS account for the items, en mass. I've opened my P&L to see the effect of the change, and noticed that only the COGS accounts have updated retroactively, and not the Sales Accounts.

Upon research, I should have received the question, "do you want this change to be retroactive"  when I clicked Save Changes in the Add/Edit Multiple List Entries window. I did not receive this question. To recap, I did not receive this question, but the COGS Accounts did update retroactively and the Sales Accounts did not.

However, if I change the Sales Account on each item individually, in the Item List, I do get the question "do you want this change to be retroactive".

Is there a reason why the COGS account will update retroactively but not the Sales Account? Is there a way to fix it so the Sales Account does update retroactively en mass?

Thank you,

Karri

Mass update Sale Account and retroactively

No fix that I am aware of

reason?  intuit dropped the ball in that aspect

You could try, in preferences, set the flag to bring back one time messages and try it again from add/edit.  I can not remember if that window has a check for do not ask me again, but if it does an someone said no and checked it, that is why it is not popping up.  (I doubt this will do anything but worth a try)

Thank you for the reply. I attempted the instructions, and as predicted, it did not work. Looks like I'm manually updating 155 accounts.

Glad to hear back from you, @karrisguns,

The prompt will only appear once after a change is performed in the company file. You can log out of the software and log back in and see if the alert comes up. Closing and relaunching the program can also help.

If it doesn't, you can manually update the posting account of the items to correct them. I would also recommend contacting our Phone Support Team to check for software issues and get additional help with mass updating the accounts.

Here's how to get support:

  1. Go to the Help menu.
  2. Choose QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Tap the Contact us button.
