Merging from 2 seperate computers.

I use QB Pro Desktop with payroll on a computer at the store.  I will be gone for 6 weeks and will have a computer with QB Pro Desktop with payroll. I will be only processing payroll and invoicing customers on the traveling computer. When I return, I want to merge the files from the traveling computer to the store computer so the store computer will be up to date with the traveling computer. How do I set them up before I leave and when I return. The traveling computer does not have any QB  files installed but it does have The QB software installed.

Merging from 2 seperate computers.

Hi there, Greatfinds.

Currently, there's no option to merge the two company files from the traveling computer to the store computer. You can only use one file for 2 separate computers. To do this, I'd suggest moving your company file from the store computer to the traveling computer. Please note that performing the steps won't affect your product license.

Here's how:

  1. Make sure you install QuickBooks Desktop on the new computer.
  2.  Create a backup company file on your original computer.
  3. When you save the backup file, give it a unique name so it's easy to identify. This also prevents accidental overwrites.
  4. Save the backup file somewhere you can easily find it, like your Windows desktop.
  5. Move the backup company file to your new or traveling computer. You can either put the backup on a flash drive or an external device. Or you can share it if your new computer is on the same network.

Once done, restore the backup on the traveling computer. This way, you're able to use your company file to process payroll and invoicing customers. Since you're using payroll, download the latest tax table after you move your file.

Then, when you return, you can follow the same steps provided above to transfer the company file from the traveling computer to the store computer.

For additional information, you can click this article: Move your company files to another computer.

Please refer to this article to see steps on how you can access QuickBooks Desktop remotely from a host or server computer: Open a company file located on a remote computer.

@Greatfinds

Consider deploying a private cloud on your premise. You will access you company file by internet connection. It would be easier to manage it then migrate data between files as long as your connection is reliable during your trips.
