Migrating attachments from QB Desktop 2017 to QB Online

Howdy!

As QB 2017 Desktop is discontinuing some services, we're considering a move to QB online (QBO). We note with some concern that the native QB migration tool will not move our > 10,500 attachments, which would be a deal breaker.

We're investigating the Zed Axis tool which claims to bulk upload attachments to QBO, basically via a text file mapping an attachment's source path to destination transaction doc number online. We know that attachments from our QBO desktop app live in the \attach\...\txn subfolders, but...

1. Are these subfolders named with the corresponding transaction document number? (e.g. 8000A3CB-1116967705) or are these folder names auto-generated and not intelligent? I'm happy to spot check it if I know how to find any given transaction ID from within the program.

2. Upon migration, would these transaction numbers persist, or would they be converted to new values during migration to QBO?

3. Might there be other issues I'm not considering?

Zed support folks weren't overly helpful, and an Intuit chat rep tried pretty hard, but I'm wondering if the community might be able to provide a more robust answer.

Thanks!

Eric

Migrating attachments from QB Desktop 2017 to QB Online

Good evening, @EricGM

Thanks for reaching out to the Community.

Since this is a third-party migrating application, Connect Axis would be the best source of information on the use of their app. You can refer back to this link as it has additional information with contacting their support: QuickBooks Axis

Feel free to comment below if you have any more questions or concerns. I'm always here to help. Have a good rest of your day!

I've watched the promo video and contacted ZedSystems sales and support (same person), who said "It should be fine". Because migrating data is a big undertaking, and based on the app's step-by-step instructions, I think this question specifically about the QB structure is important. I would hope someone at QB has a simple yes or no answer.

Welcome back to the Community, @EricGM.

I also want to make sure you can seamlessly switch to the online version, especially with migrating the attachments. To help with your concern, we have a separate forum where customers, engineers, and product developers come together to discuss a variety of development topics and answer integration questions.

I suggest posting your question to the Intuit Developer site. One of our product specialists can discuss in detail what will happen to the attachments’ subfolders and the transaction numbers once they are converted.

I don’t want to leave you empty-handed, so I’m adding a link that contains a breakdown of articles to help get started with the migration process: The QuickBooks Guide to Converting QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

Reach out to me if you have any clarifications or questions about the product. I’ll be right here to answer them for you. Have a good one.
