Join nowI have Quickbooks 2010 installed on my desktop. I have sold my company and I need to take it from my desktop when I leave the company and move to another format or version. Any suggestions?
You can make a backup of the company file to an external drive ( in some cases, you may need to make the backup to the desktop, then copy the desktop backup to a drive).
Once you have chosen to go to something, like a later version of QuickBooks on another computer, you can restore the backup and allow the data to update to the new version.
QuickBooks online could be an option, but I would research the conversion to the online version pretty heavily so you know what to anticipate, and get a very good grasp of what is to be involved.
Hey there, @CWhite1.
Thanks for posting here in the Community. I'm here to help share some steps on how you can move your QuickBooks to another computer.
I agree with the details given by, Revscott. You need to create a backup copy for your company file and save it on a drive. If you've decided to upgrade to a new QuickBooks Desktop version, you can restore the backup of your company file on the computer.
Also, here's an article about QuickBooks Desktop system requirements that you can read through for your reference: QuickBooks Desktop system requirements.
If you're ready to switch over to the new version of QuickBooks, you can refer to the steps provided in these articles about the QuickBooks installation process:
These steps should guide you in moving your company file to another computer.
Please let me know if you have any other questions about this process. I'm always here to lend a helping hand. Have a nice day!
