Moving multiple jobs to main customer file

Hello,

We have our QB file set up with the main customer and then add jobs under there are we get them, and view in heirarchy view.   However, we are in the process of switching over to a dispatching software where it would be cleaner to have the jobs added under the main customer instead of underneath.   I know how to create a duplicate invoice and move things that way, but in order to clean up our whole file it would require me to back out every payment and deposit linked to the paid invoices and it would just be too tedious.

I am wondering if there is a simple way to (wishful thinking maybe) "drag and drop" an existing job up to it's parent customer without going through all that.

In other words, we want to go from:

Smith, John

     Job 1

     Job 2

To:

Smith, John

And only when you click on the customer would you see all the history for that customer.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: Moving multiple jobs to main customer file

I was able to find a way to do this.

1)  Click on the little triangle to the left of a job # and drag it left, in line with the main customer.

2)  Double click on the job and when the screen pops up change the name to match the name of the parent company that you want to move it to, and click OK.

3)  A warning will pop up letting you know "that name already exists, do you want to merge?"  Say OK.

4)  Enter the dividing date password and click OK and the two shall become one!

Re: Moving multiple jobs to main customer file

Hi Terrie P,

Thank you for posting here in the Community. I'm here to help share information about moving existing jobs into the main customer in QuickBooks Desktop.

Right now, you only have the option to move them into the main customer by editing them manually per transaction in the system. A drag and drop feature for the migration from the existing jobs are not yet available at this time.

For now, I recommend updating to the latest release to ensure you have the latest features and options coming from our product engineers.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Help tab at the top menu bar.
  2. Click Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. Go to the Update Now tab.
  4. Put a check mark beside Reset Update.
  5. Click Get Updates.

For your future reference, I'm adding the support link I recommend on this:

Update to the latest release of QuickBooks Desktop.

Please know I'm always around whenever you have further questions with using QuickBooks. I look forward to serving you to the best of my ability.
