My invoices get marked as paid automatically when I create them????

I'll discuss some reasons why an invoice automatically gets marked as paid before you email it to your client in QuickBooks Online (QBO), swright0585.

It's possible that the "Automatically Apply Credits" feature was enabled in your settings. This feature automatically applies any available credits, such as credit memos, to new invoices for that customer. To prevent the program from automatically paying your invoice transactions, let's turn it off.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then select Account and settings.
  2. Choose the Advanced tab.
  3. In the Automation section, click the Pencil icon to edit.
  4. Toggle off the Automatically apply credits.

  5. Click Save, then Done.

After doing this, any new invoices you create for a customer with an existing credit will remain unpaid until you manually apply the credit.

However, if a customer doesn't have a credit balance and an invoice is still being marked as paid, it could be due to a different issue, such as a zero balance on the invoice, a browser-related problem, or a glitch in the program.

If you create an invoice and save it with a zero balance (e.g., you haven't entered an amount yet), QBO will consider it paid by default. Once you add the line items and amount, the "Paid" stamp should disappear.

Additionally, if you are certain that the "Automatically Apply Credits" feature is turned off in your settings and the invoice you created has a non-zero balance, but you're still experiencing issues, try clearing your browser's cache. This can help free up space and may improve your device's performance, as many problems are often linked to browser settings or the cache itself. If the issue persists, consider switching to a different supported browser for the best QuickBooks experience.
