Find any file of *.QBW, *.QBB, or *.QBM

Copy the file(s) to your local drive and restore it on QBD 2020

Need help in restoring data from a CD disc to new updated QB2020. Can't remember how to do this.

Hi there, Mawmaw1953.

Thank you for posting here in QuickBooks Community. I'll provide information and steps on how to move data from the CD disc back onto my hard drive. Then, restoring to your QB2020.

Once your backup company file is on an external device like a USB or a hosting service like Box, I'd suggest clicking this article to see the instructions on how to move it to your local hard drive: Move your company files to another computer.

Once done, you can follow the steps below on how you can restore a backup file to the new updated QuickBooks2020.

  1. In QuickBooks, go to the File menu and click Open or Restore Company.
  2. Select Restore a backup copy, then click Next.
  3. Select Local Backup and click Next.
  4. Browse your computer for your backup company file. It should look like this: [Your company name].qbb.
  5. Select a folder to decide where to save your restored company file. Then, click Open.
  6. Select Save. If you see any messages about possibly overwriting your data, select the option that best fits your needs. Don't overwrite anything unless you know you want to.

If you encounter problems while restoring your backup company file, you can follow the steps provided in this article to fix them: Fix backup company file issues in QuickBooks Desktop.

In case you can't find your company file, just follow the steps in this article to locate it: Company file is missing or cannot be found.

That's it! Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to be of assistance. Have a great weekend!
