Need to file a 1099 NEC, but I have 2 different accounts for 2 companies with the same EIN. I need to file the amounts together, Can I do that on quickbooks?

I don't think there is a way on QB without changing your reports?

Hi there, @norwalkumc. Let me explain why this happens and how you can resolve it.

QuickBooks Online treats each company as a separate entity, even if they share the same EIN. It doesn't automatically combine 1099 amounts for contractors across multiple accounts. To file the 1099 NEC correctly with the IRS, you can manually combine the amounts outside of QuickBooks.

Start by generating the 1099 Transaction Detail Report from each company for the tax year. Export both reports to Excel and combine the payment totals for the contractor(s) under the shared EIN.

Once everything is ready, you can use a third-party 1099 e-filing service to submit the combined totals electronically. This simplifies filing while maintaining accurate records. Alternatively, you can use IRS-approved red-ink forms, available from the IRS or local office supply stores, to mail your combined 1099 NEC to the IRS.

I recommend exploring QuickBooks Payroll to simplify your payroll and 1099 filing process. Our professionals can provide prompt, personalized guidance to help you consolidate totals, manage payments, and maximize QuickBooks features for accurate and efficient compliance.
