Tried verify and rebuilding company file many times no luck. This happens on 1 machine out of 10 in office

Re: NON-stop errors

Thank you for getting back to us here in the Community, @bb1064.

I'll be happy to help you fix the error you're getting while working with QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

These errors are usually caused by various reasons such as an incomplete installation of an update (QuickBooks and/or Windows), data damage, program code that needs repairing, or system/computer issues. Unrecoverable errors can occur in numerous situations but are not limited to:

  • Attempting to open a company file
  • Closing a company file
  • Closing any open window in a company file
  • Creating a backup
  • Creating a company file
  • Creating a portable file
  • Downloading a payroll update
  • Opening any window in QuickBooks (Home Page, Company Snapshot, Reports, Transaction)
  • Running Verify or Rebuild
  • Saving a transaction
  • Sending payroll via Direct Deposit
  • Using the Open Previous Company feature

To fix the error you can follow on the steps provide below, however, before proceeding, make sure to update QBDT to the latest release and create a backup of you company file.

Solution 1: Identify how many users are affected

Identify how many users are affected by using a different log in credential to open the same company file. If the error only happens in one specific user, that user credential might be damaged. If so, recreate the damaged user. If you don't use a user name to open your company file or if there are no other users that can access your company file, proceed to solution 2.

Solution 2: Suppress your QuickBooks Desktop

You can suppress the Desktop while starting QuickBooks and while opening a company file.

Solution 3: Open a sample company file

Opening a sample company file helps you identify if the problem lies with your company file or with QuickBooks itself.

Solution 4: Run reboot.bat

Running reboot.bat re-registers the QuickBooks related .DLL and .OCX files which can help address unrecoverable errors.

Solution 5: Troubleshoot the QuickBooks Desktop Application

Solution 6: Create a new Windows Administrator

You can check these articles for the detailed steps and instructions:

If the same thing happens after following the steps provided above, I suggest getting in touch with our QuickBooks Support to check and investigate this further for you.

Re: NON-stop errors

Hi, bb1064.

I'd be happy to help you get past the non-stop errors. Let's get you back up and running.

It’s good you’ve performed some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. The Clean Install or Clean Uninstall is a process that completely removes QuickBooks installation files and folders from your computer.

Step 1; Uninstall QuickBooks Desktop:

  1. On your keyboard, press Windows+R to open the Run command.
  2. Type in Control Panel, select OK.
  3. Select Programs and Features.
Note: If the Control Panel is in Category View, choose to Uninstall a Program.
  4. In the list of programs, select QuickBooks, then select Uninstall/Change.
  5. Follow the prompts to complete the process.

Step 2; Download and run the QuickBooks Clean Install Tool:

  1. Download the QuickBooks_Clean_Install_Tool.exe file and save it to your desktop.
  2. Open QuickBooks_Clean_Install_Utility.exe.
  3. Select I Accept on the license agreement.
  4. Select your version of QuickBooks Desktop, then select Continue.
  5. Choose OK when you see the following message: "QuickBooks is now ready for a clean install, please install to the default directory."

Here's an article with detailed steps and information about using the clean install for Windows (proceed to step 3 and 4): https://quickbooks.intuit.com/community/Reports-and-accounting/Using-clean-install-for-Windows/td-p/....

If you'd like someone to be with you as you go through these steps. you can reach out to our QuickBooks Desktop Support. They can pull up your account in a secure environment and assist you further:

  1. Go to: https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact.
  2. Choose your QuickBooks Product.
  3. Select your QuickBooks version.
  4. On the Contact Us page, click a topic.
  5. Click on the Get Phone Number button to see the support number.

Feel free to drop a reply if you need additional help with installing or reinstalling QuickBooks Desktop. I'll be around to help.
