Open a quickbooks pro file in enterprise 2018

Hi there, @Mwinqu19.

Glad you stop by and post your concerns here in the Community. When opening an accountant file, it needs to be opened in the same version as the company file it originated from. Hence, you will need an Enterprise edition to open a data file created with Enterprise.

It's also ideal to use the same year as Quickbooks isn't backward compatible.

If you're a part of our ProAdvisor program, you get an Enterprise license with your subscription and you'd be able to use that.

Here are some helpful links that can give you more insights and tips about this process:

Stop by again if you have more questions. I'd be delighted to answer them for you. Take care.

This is the problem with quickbooks, support its basically non existent and no one reads what you write.

Let's try this again.

We ALREADY HAVE quickbooks enterprise 2018.

We are potentially merging with a company and they sent us their file from quickbooks pro.

We need to open the Quickbooks Pro file in our Quickbooks Enterprise 2018.

How do we do that??

Hi @Mwinqu19.

I’d be happy to provide you with the steps to open the accountant file into your Enterprise. Here’s how:

  1. Select Open or Restore Company if you don't have a company file open. You can also go to the File menu and select Open or Restore Company.
  2. Select Open a company file, then Next. If you have a backup company file (QBB) instead of a company file (QBW), select Restore a backup copy and then Local backup.
  3. Browse your computer for your company file. Select it and then select Open.

Here is a detailed article for reference: Restore a backup of your company file

Keep in mind, if the Pro file is 2019 or newer, you may not be able to import it without upgrading your Enterprise 2018.

If you any more questions about restoring this file, or anything else, let me know. I’m here to help anytime.

@Mwinqu19

Check your file type. You may open the QBW, QBB, or QBM files on your QBD Enterprise. You will need QBD Accountant edition to open the QBX or QBY files or purchase a 3rd party conversion service.

It's not complicated and doesn't take 10 steps.

Opening a Pro file in Enterprise is just like opening an Enterprise file, except you'll get a prompt that says it's a one-way path.

Once it's opened in Enterprise, then it can't be used with Pro or Premier unless it's down-converted using a service like our BRC Enterprise to Pro/Premier Conversion Service
