Point of Sale says "Invalid Product Number"

Client station won't open. Gives the message "invalid product number" then when I click OK it closes.

Did a clean reinstall, no different.

Saw someone suggest finding the Entitlement file, but it doesn't seem to exist on this computer.

The Entitlement folder can be found on your computer's C drive. I'm here to help and guide you how.

 

You'll usually encounter this error message if your Point of Sale (POS) Entitlement folder contains damaged files, an incorrect product code or you're not logged in to Windows as an Administrator.

 

To resolve this, let's delete the contents of the Entitlement folder:

  1. On your computer, navigate to C:\Program Data\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v8.
  2. Press the CTRL+A on your keyboard to select all the files in the folder and then press Delete.
  3. Select Yes to confirm the action.
  4. Relaunch QuickBooks Desktop POS and re-register the application.

They have tools such as screen-sharing (remote access) that can check your activation number and helps you troubleshoot the software.
