Point of Sale

When I try to Export to Excel from the Point of Sale 19.0 Pro Level - I get an error message Invalid Index - this started happening about six months ago - and it's just on my computer (there are 10 running through-out our business), I have to go to another computer to export it, save and then bring it up on mine.  What did I do to my Point of Sale?

I'm here to make sure you're able to export to Excel from QuickBooks Point of Sale (POS), @haneylumber1. This way, you can manage your data accordingly.

 

You'll have to keep your POS software updated so you'll always have the latest features and fixes. You may have an outdated version that's why you're unable to export to Excel.

 

We recommend using automatic updates. This lets QuickBooks POS download and installs updates for you when they're available. To do this, here's how:

 

  1. Sign in to your POS system as an admin.
  2. Go to the Help menu and hover over Software Update. Then select Updater Preference.
  3. Choose the General tab.
  4. Select Automatically download updates. You can also select Notify me so you can decide if you want new updates when they're available.
  5. When you're done, select OK.

 

Even if you have automatic updates, you can always check for the latest updates yourself. To do this, you can refer to this article: Update Quickbooks Point of Sale.

Fully updated all the time - been using POS since 2017 - that's not the problem

I can provide additional information that can help you resolve the error you're having when exporting your file, @haneylumber1

 

After making sure to have the latest features and fixes, you can run the Clean Up Company Data Utility. It'll repair various list damages in POS.

 

But before doing so, make sure to create a separate backup to protect you against permanent loss of data. Check this guide on how to create or restore backup files in QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale.

 

Once done, you can now proceed and run the tool:

 

  1. Go to the File menu, select Utilities, and choose Clean Up Company Data.
  2. Put a checkmark on the Compress data box and select OK after the warning message.
  3. In the Proceed with Cleanup window, select Cleanup and wait until the cleanup ran completely.
  4. If you get an error, run a second clean-up with the compress data option checked.
