How do you use the serial number tracking? I have items that have to sell with serial numbers tracked and cannot figure out how to enter them on the product.

Hello there, tbonerocketeer.
When you set up the item, you'll have an option to use Serial number. Here's how:
The serial number is entered upon using the item on a transaction. You can use the image below for reference.
We got your back if you need additional assistance with the steps. Have a great day!

Thanks, that answers part of it. Is there a way to track them while in inventory prior to sale? I sell items that have to be received under item model number, and serial number by law, so I want to have POS track this when they arrive until they leave.
Thanks for getting back to us, @tbonerocketeer.
Currently, the option to track serial numbers in the inventory before the sale in QuickBooks Point of Sale (POS) is unavailable. This can only be done when using a specific item on a transaction, as mentioned by my colleague above.
I can see how having this option would be helpful for you, and I'll take note of this. Our Product Developers are always looking for ideas from users on how to improve QuickBooks.
In the meantime, I recommend visiting our Blog site. This is where we share recent happenings and future developments, such as updates to newly added features. Here's the link: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/blog/.

Everything has been resolved, and it works as I need. When receiving an item that uses serial number tracking, the software prompts for the serial number. It does the same prompt when selling.
2022, POS 19, and this is still not resolved.
I can add the serial number when receiving, however, there is no way to pull a report that will show me the serial numbers...
The feature that I'm requesting is to be able to add the serial numbers directly from the "Items List" and to be able to populate a report with serial numbers.
It would also be nice if the serial numbers could "map" with the sale, so that when we pull a report, we know what serial numbers we're supposed to have in our inventory.
Thank you for your help in advance.

I would love to be able to add serial numbers directly from the "Items List".
I know that I can link a serial number during the "Receiving", however, there is no way to pull a report that shows us serial number data.
It would also be nice, if the added serial numbers would "map" with the sale, that way we know exactly what serial numbers we're supposed to have in our inventory.
These are requirements for us by law as well... We've been using QB POS for over 4 years now, and would hate to have to switch to another POS.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Your satisfaction means everything to us, @JamesCarroll.
Currently, the option to add serial number directly from the item list is unavailable. I also see that this feature in QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale is very helpful for you and other users. So I'm going to direct you to a page where you can post feedback and suggestions. This way, our engineers can find a schematic that supports this functionality again.
Here's how:
Rest assured, your encounter and ideas have been shared with our Developers so they can take a look and evaluate this matter.
