Join nowWe set up price rules so that our top customers can get discounts, but our products are not uniformly marked up from cost. In general, we would like to mark down from price (ie 15% off retail), but we would love an exception that wouldn't allow us to sell anything for less than 5% above cost while implementing the discounts. I don't know how to make this happen without applying exceptions for individual items in each price tier. Due to the number of items we sell, it would be impossible to find every item that would end up below cost with the discount, especially since I can't sort my items by markup.
Does anyone have any brilliant suggestions for how to do this? Quickbooks tech support was unable to help me find a solution.
Hello there, Operations_Monkey.
You can set up two price rules with these two conditions to apply a discount to your customers. I'll be happy to show you how:
Once you're ready to create the invoice, you can select the price rule by clicking the Square icon in the Rate field. Also, please note that this option is available in QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise version 17.0 and later.
I've attached an article about this feature, such as how to edit, delete, and inactivate a price rule. While the second link listed the important year-end tasks to guide you through:
Let me know if you have any other questions. I'll be happy to help you some more.
If they are 2 separate price rules, how do I know which one will take priority? Ideally, the 15% lower would take effect unless it is less than 5% above cost, at which point the other rule would kick in. Do I need to manually check each item on the invoice to see if the 15% off rule is a lower number than the 5% over rule?
Thanks for your help!
Hi there, @Operations_Monkey.
Thank you for reaching back to the Community.
No, you don't have to manually check each item on the invoice.
QuickBooks will depend on the quantity discount that was set up together with the price rule. It will show up if both transactions meet the conditions.
We can go back to the transaction to check if the price rule took effect.
