QB 2018 Pro locks up when emailing through Outlook

We're using QB Desktop Pro 2018 with Windows 10 Pro / 64, and Office 365 MSO 16.0 / 64.

Quickbooks will lock up if I try to send email from Quickbooks through Outlook IF Outlook is not already running on the computer. Outlook will eventually show up in the Task Manager as a couple of stray processes that are grayed out. I'll have to force close all Quickbooks processes to be able to use it again.

We do not have this issue if Outlook is already running.

This is an on-going issue, Chris. Some of our users are also experiencing the same thing. 


This can be caused by a damaged QuickBooks or Outlook installation. We have 6 solutions for you to try. Let's make sure to perform the steps in order on this article: Error: QuickBooks is unable to send your email to Outlook.


I also suggest reaching out to our technical support so an agent can add you to the list of affected users. Here's how:

  1. Click Help in QuickBooks.
  2. Go to QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. In the Have a Question? window, click Contact us.
  4. Enter a brief detail of your concern, then click Continue.
  5. Select either Message an Agent or Talk to a Specialist.

You can drop by anytime in case you have other concerns.

I appreciate you for bringing this to our attention. Let's try two more solutions to resolve this unexpected behavior when sending email through Outlook.


Your Microsoft Outlook installation may be corrupted. To fix this, let's make sure that Outlook is up to date. 


Here's how:

  1. Open Outlook and choose File.
  2. Select Office Account, then click Update Options.
  3. Sort the updates by date, scroll through the list and see which updates were installed on the date in question.
  4. Look for the updates referencing Outlook.
  5. Hit Update Now

If you get the same result, I suggest you use the repair option. Repairing the application can resolve issues in the program. You can refer to the steps outlined in this article under Solution 6Error: QuickBooks is unable to send your email to Outlook.


After that, email your invoice again to see if it goes through. If the same thing happens, please give us a call so we can fix it for you.
