QB Fixed Asset Manager errors with connecting to desktop

Since installing the QB 2019 version, I am not able to access the Fixed Asset Manager program.  I have uninstalled QB 2019 and still am not able to access the Fixed Asset Manager program for ANY of my QB versions.  It seems as though NOBODY knows how to fix this problem.  I NEED it fixed before tax season starts because I have many clients who I prepare depreciation schedules for in order to prepare financial statements each year.  What can I do?  I really need help.  My assistance has been on the phone with QB wasting more than 7 hours of work trying to solve this problem.  Can somebody look into this and give me a solution???   We have uninstalled QB 2019.  We have re-installed the QB versions.    Right Now I feel totally screwed!!

May I know what is the exact error message when you access the Fixed Asset Manager?

I'm having the same problem.  The error message when I attempt to open FAM in prior QB version is "Unable to connect to QuickBooks".  I can see FAM on my screen but this message is on top of it.  Then I try to close QB and get the message "The company file cannot be closed at this time because there is another application which is using it..."

Your computer must meet the system requirements for QuickBooks Desktop in order not to experience connection error. A number of reasons can cause this strange behavior in QuickBooks.

  • Damaged or missing QBWUSER.INI file
  • Corruption on your hard drive
  • Damaged program files or QuickBooks Desktop installation
  • Damaged Windows operating system

You can close your software by using the task manager. Here's how:

  1. Press Ctrl Alt Delete on your keyboard, then choose Start Task Manager.
  2. Go to the Applications tab.
  3. Choose QuickBooks, then click End task.

After that, you have to follow the recommend solutions in the QuickBooks Desktop Won't Open, Has Stopped Working, or Not Responding article.


You should be able to use Fixed Asset Manager in QuickBooks once done, bawc79.
