QB Online to QB Desktop Migration

I apologize if this topic has already been discussed elsewhere, but I've been unable to find exactly what I need.

I'm looking for object / data mapping equivalence between QBO and QB desktop (see attached) where I'm hoping there could be some kind of existing object matrix out there identifying all of these, but that's why I'm here.      Any help would be greatly appreciated.

More specifically for the following objects :

  • Customer (this one I mostly have mapped out)
  • Department
  • Products / ItemInventory
  • Invoice
  • Credit Memos
  • Payment

QB Online to QB Desktop Migration

The Community has your back, DenisB87. I'm glad you're able to identify the proper translation between QuickBooks Online (QBO) to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Since there is some information that may exist only in QBO and not in Desktop or vice versa, we have a dedicated team who'll be able to help you with this. Let me route you to our Developers Team so they can clarify or answer any of your concerns. You can select the QuickBooks version and click the Ask a Question button on the upper-right. I've attached screenshots for your visual guide.

In case you have a few questions about QuickBooks Desktop, check out these help articles for your future reference.

I'm confident that you'll be able to find out the answers that you need. Keep me posted if you have any questions about the migration process. As always, I'll just be one post away if you need help. Keep safe.

QB Online to QB Desktop Migration

Hello there, @DenisB87.

There's some information in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) that QuickBooks Online (QBO) doesn't have. Also, the data/information you mapped is only supported in QBO.

We can download the Invoice Template Sample for your reference to compare the column widths of your invoice.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Lists menu.
  2. Click Templates.
  3. Select an invoice template.
  4. At the bottom, click Template.
  5. Choose Download Templates.
  6. Click Invoice.
  7. Choose a sample invoice template you want to download.

You can also check this link about the limitation in QBO and QBDT: Limitations when you convert from QBO to QBDT.

For future reference, please check this article if you want to match bank transactions in QuickBooks: Add and Match Bank Feed Transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

Stay in touch with us if you have other questions. I'm more than happy to help. Take care!

Thank you for the response.   I had already reviewed some of the articles you provided and although they do offer additional insight,  I was looking for more specifics on the back-end level so that our new API accounts for all of our existing objects properties / values.     I'll check out the template you suggested.

In some cases we are able to identify the proper "translation" or mapping between QBO and QBDT, but  for others, like you said, the property may not exist in QBDT or may even reside under a different entity.    I don't really want to assume or guess anything when it comes to some of the financial data especially.

Thanks again, I appreciate the response.
