QB Payroll Core - Automatic Tax Payments and Form Filings - YES for Filings, but NO for Payments??

QB  Payroll Core -

New to QB - starting in Q4 2020.

We have turned off automatic tax payments (EFTPS, state SIT, unemployment, etc) as we like to do these outside of QB.  For payroll taxes we generally settle them the day of payroll.

We would, however, like to file the 941, w-2, 1099's electronically.

Can I turn on the automatic Tax payments closer to the end of the year so that it will enable electronic filing?  If yes, is there a date by which I need to select this option  so that it will enable electronic filing?

If I turn on automatic Tax Payments and Filings - and I continue to settle my liabilities prior to the date that they are due, do I run the chance of QB double paying payroll taxes, etc?

Thank you.

Thanks for checking in with us, PM317.

The automated tax payment and form filing feature are enabled by default in QuickBooks Online (QBO) Payroll Core. Once you turned it off, we’ll let you know when your tax payments and form filings are due. You'll see reminders in your payroll to-do list. I want to ensure this is taken care of, @Qing.

We can preview the W-2 form by going to the employee's profile and correct the necessary information.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Taxes menu.
  2. Choose Payroll Tax.
  3. In the Forms section, select the Annual Forms link.
  4. From the drop-down menu, choose either All Employees or a specific name of the employee.

Also, here's an article for your reference: Reports and info about W-2 and W-3 forms. It helps you learn about what information is reported on your employees' W-2 to make sure it's accurate.

I'm also adding this article about e-filing W-2 forms: Enroll in E-file & Pay.

Don't hesitate to drop a comment below if you have other questions. I'm more than happy to help. Take care!
