QB won't do a reverse customer search using their mobile phone # but will do so using a home phone # I sometimes need to do this when I have missed a call and want to know who it was.

QB won't do a reverse customer search using their mobile phone # but will do so using a home phone #.  Because of all the calls we get with spoofed numbers I often need to do this when I have missed a call and want to know who it was that called before I return the call.  I can do a reverse customer search using their Home or Alt phone #'s but NOT the mobile #  I've tried searching using Customer filter/phone fields  and every other trick I can think of but still, no mobile numbers are searched.  It was only an annoying issue before but with all these spoofed phone numbers and nuisance calls it's often handy to quickly do a reverse search to see if the number calling is one of my customers or if I should let the call roll over to the answering machine.  Thanks for any help you might be able to give!

Re: QB won't do a reverse customer search using their mobile phone # but will do so using a home ...

Welcome to the Intuit Community, Moose Milo.

The option to automatically find a customer’s mobile number in the Customer & Jobs section is unavailable at this time. To identify who reached out to you using a cellphone number, let’s run the Customer Contact List Report and then export it to Excel.

Here’s how to pull up the report.

  1. At the top menu bar choose Reports, pick Customers & Receivables to open the Customer Contact List Report.
  2. Hit the Customize Report tab in the upper right and then go to the Display tab.
  3. Under Columns, input Mobile in the search field and hit OK.
  4. To show the changes, click the Refresh button in the upper right hand.
  5. Tap the drop-down for Excel and pick Create New Worksheet.
  6. Follow the instructions to send the data to Excel and click Export.

Once done, you can now print it. For further insight into the Export feature, such as  removing space between columns or creating a CSV file, check out this article: Customize a report in QBDT.

Let me know if you have any clarifications or concerns. I’ll be right here to answer you. Wishing you the best.

Re: QB won't do a reverse customer search using their mobile phone # but will do so using a home ...

Thanks for the instructions but almost all of my customers use mobile numbers and I'd still have to sort through the printed list to find who's calling.  I need to be able to enter the mobile number in the customer search bar, hit the search button, and find the name of my customer who's calling within 3 rings of the phone in the same way I can if they are using their Home number.

Adding the most common phone number in use today by nearly everyone -Mobile numbers- to the search capabilities [alt phone is already searchable] is what I'll wait for instead. I do appreciate the information though.

Hello Moose Milo,

I appreciate you for getting back to us here in the Community. Allow me to assist you with what you need from the QuickBooks program.

Right now, the only available workaround is the steps provided by my colleague, @Rasa-LilaM. I understand that there are features that you need in QuickBooks to locate customers as quickly as possible.

I'm taking note of your request specific to using mobile numbers as a search tool. While this is unavailable, I suggest making sure you have the latest version of QuickBooks regularly.

By doing so, we'll be able to ensure the program installed on your end has all the latest features and options coming from our product engineers. In case you need the article on the process, please check this out:
