QBO Windows App error when updating - requires Windows 7 (Client has Windows 7 SP1)

A client is using the desktop app (version 3.5.2) for QBO on a Windows 7 SP1 computer.  The app is working fine, but she keeps getting an error when the app tries to update.  The error says that Windows 7 is required for the update.

We did the following:

Restarted her computer and made sure that the computer was up to date (Windows updates.)

Loaded the System information to make sure that she is running SP1 - she is.

Tried to download and reinstall the app - the install states the same error - Requires Windows 7.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Our Support Team recently tagged this as an ongoing issue with the QuickBooks Online Desktop App. They are already working to implement a fix for this unexpected hurdle.


In the meantime, you can access your company using a supported browser to complete your work.

  1. Go to the (?) Help menu on your QBO account.
  2. Click the Contact us link.
