Question on GL account sort order on reports for QBO

It seems that:

I can either display GL account numbers internally and on reports (like BS, P&L, etc.) but not just internally. If I turn on viewing GL accounts, the financial statements will sort with them, but I have to display the GL number otherwise it goes back to an alpha sort. The alpha sort is unacceptable without a lot of parent sub account relationships and even then, I must use some non-standard type names to get it all in the right order. There’s no way I will share financial reports with GL account numbers on them, but I also can’t have an alpha sort which puts things like amortization before depreciation and Accounting Services so high on the P&L etc.

My question: Is there some way in QBO for a user to sort the GL like there is in the desktop version like a user sort mode? If there is, will this impact how they appear on financial statements?

If not I guess it’s on to parent/sub palooza.

Hello there, Steve6288.

Thanks for taking the time to reach us back. Allow me to join this thread and provide you with clarifications.

Sorting accounts from General Ledger in QuickBooks Online (QBO) is not yet available. I appreciate you for raising this up. Your preference of  having an option to sort General Ledger accounts is being noted so our product developers may consider this for future product enhancements.

For now, you can visit our QuickBooks Blog to be updated of the latest feature available in QBO: QuickBooks Blog.

If I can be of help with something else, please don't hesitate to get back to me. I'm always happy to assist.

Re: Question on GL account sort order on reports for QBO

Hello, Steve6288.

I’ve replicated this scenario in my QuickBooks and was not able to sort GL through account numbers. As a workaround, you can export the report to Excel and sort it from there (Just click the export icon nest to print icon in the report and select Export to Excel.)
You might also want to reach out to our support team for additional alternatives. Here’s how:

  1. Click Help at the top.
  2. Select Contact us.
  3. Provide a brief information about your concern.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Select Get a callback.

Lastly, I’ll make sure to share this preference with our developers for future updates.

Continue to visit us again if there’s something else that we can help you with.

Re: Question on GL account sort order on reports for QBO

Thank you for your attempt at an answer MikiD. It was more a functionality question not any kind of bug taht I would call support for. When you say you replicated the situation I'm not sure what you are talking about. When you say I can ask "them" to open QuickBooks in a private window, I'm not sure whom you are referring to as "them".

I'm not really sure what you are talking about. I apologize if my question was vague. Thanks.
