Quickbooks 2019 (up-to-date) REALLY slow and File Doctor hangs

Quickbooks 2019 (up-to-date) takes about 15-20 minutes to start up. Everything I do, whether it's creating an invoice or adding a transation, is excessively slow. I tried to run File Doctor (Repair File and Network Problems from File menu).  It shows the "Loading" screen, then does nothing. I let it sit like that for over 24 hours and finally had to use the Task Manager to close the application.

To isolate the issue, open your file on trial license of Pro 2020.

Make sure to name the converted file diffrently.

Quickbooks 2019 (up-to-date) REALLY slow and File Doctor hangs

Welcome to the Community space, @predictabletraction.

I appreciate you trying to run the File Doctor in QuickBooks. Since the application stops functioning properly, you can attempt to launch this utility manually.

Here's how:

  1. Launch the application and wait until the system displays No Company Open screen.
  2. Click the File menu and select Utilities.
  3. Choose Repair File and Network Problems.
  4. When the dialog box appears, click OK.
  5. The File Doctor will restart the application with administrator rights. Click Yes when the dialog box appears.
  6. Tap the Wrench Icon to open the application and click Continue.
  7. Once you log into your file, the utility will now start working on repairing.
  8. From the Advanced Settings option, select File Diagnosis Only.
  9. Click Next. Once the system prompts, open your file and check for any issues.

Running this tool will get everything back to normal, so let me know how it goes.

I'll be around to help if you need anything else. Have a great day!

Open the sample file. Did you see any different?

Quickbooks 2019 (up-to-date) REALLY slow and File Doctor hangs

When I launch the application it shows a splash screen that says "Opening Quickbooks Desktop File Doctor... Please wait" -- it stops there. I can let it sit like that for days with nothing happening.  I tried this with the sample file open and got the same result, so it's not the data file. Curious - I looked at the updates and saw two errors: Protocol Handler, error #15227; and Move Quickbooks - same error. Both show "Never Updated".

I tried using the "Fix and repair" Quickbooks on a reinstall and it didn't work. Next step to completely remove Quickbooks and re-install?

Quickbooks 2019 (up-to-date) REALLY slow and File Doctor hangs

When I run the program it shows a flash screen "Opening Quickbooks Desktop File Doctor... please wait" and remains there. The program never runs, so I can't follow your instructions.

I tried this with the sample file - same result.

Update shows that two files have never been updated - Protocol Handler and Move Quickbooks (both error #15227).

I tried re-installing ("Repair/Fix") and it still doesn't work.  Perhaps remove Quickbooks entirely and re-install?

Quickbooks 2019 (up-to-date) REALLY slow and File Doctor hangs

For some reason, the installation of 2020 hung up while trying to uninstall 2019. So, I manually uninstalled 2019, cleaned up all temp files, and am in the process of re-installing 2019 and then running updates. I'll let you know how it goes. I'll try it first with the sample file.

Completely removing the 2019 version and reinstalling worked like a champ.  The data file is clean, so something must have been hosed with the installation/application. All updates completed.

Thank you for your help.

I did as you suggested re private messages, went to your profile, clicked on "Send a Message" and got a blank screen with no form. So, here it is:

Shortly after I posted my issue I received a phone call, which seemed rather odd, but I answered. He said he was from Quickbooks support. I let him run a diagnostic on my data file. He claimed that over 80% of the file was corrupt and that it needed immediate rebuilding, and there were no options. Their price? $2,000. I let them get started on the work while I did some research. It turns out they're not with Quickbooks, and they had several complaints of predatory practices on the BBB website. I cut them off immediately, only to find that the "fix" they were running was a small app that did nothing but looked like it was scanning the data file.  Now that I know the data file is completely clean and the issue was something else, it's important for others to be aware. Do NOT answer the phone after you post an issue that may look like a data file corruption.
