quickbooks data to trubotax. Software?

I use Quickbooks desktop pro 2020. I need to be able to transfer my books into turbotax, and have previously used turbotax online to file, I just found out that I cannot import my books. Wondering which software I need in order to import my quickbooks desktop pro 2020 file into my turbotax account. Thanks!

Yes, you are right, quinn1.

QuickBooks Desktop is compatible with TurboTax Business CD/Download software or TurboTax CD/Download for Windows. To purchase this one, please get in touch with our Turbo Tax Customer Support.

Just go to this link to reach out to them: https://support.turbotax.intuit.com/contact/.

quickbooks data to trubotax. Software?

Hi there, @quinn1.

TurboTax for Windows Basic, Deluxe, Premier, and Home & Business versions can import directly from the QuickBooks 2014-2020 Desktop software. I'll be happy to show you how.

Before you start, please review the following requirements to complete the process:

  • Make sure the QuickBooks 2014-2020 software (downloadable or CD) is installed on your computer, along with TurboTax.
  • Your QuickBooks data file should be saved to your local drive, not on the network or cloud.
  • Make sure you've finished entering the tax year's financial info in QuickBooks, and that you've assigned tax lines to your accounts.
  • During the import, leave QuickBooks is running and keep your QuickBooks data file open.

Once done, refer to the steps below on how to transfer your Quickbooks data into Turbo Tax:

  1. Open your tax return in TurboTax.
  2. From the TurboTax File menu, select Import, then click From Accounting Software.
  3. Select QuickBooks (2020) and click Continue.
  4.  Follow the onscreen instructions.

If you have any other questions about sending your tax info, I recommend you contact our TurboTax Support team. They have a dedicated community site to answer all the tax and product questions that you have.

I'm just a post away if you have any other questions. Have a great day.

Thank you for your reply! So, I need to purchase turbotax software rather than using the turbotax website like I used to correct?

@RCV

Thank you so much for your time spent on these questions!  Learning a lot.

I imported all my info over, and what I ran into is, there is income from a job which I received as a sub contractor, so I was issued a 1099 misc. This income was categorized into QB Desktop as "income" so in the turbotax software this amount of income is included in my "gross" income, then, when I go add my 1099 misc to turbo tax, it adds that income again to my overall income. Did I categorize this wrong in QB?

When clicking on "Import", there is no "from accounting software". There is only "From Quickbooks". If you click there absolutely nothing happens.

When selecting "import" it only shows "From Quickbooks". When you click on there, absolutely nothing happens! Was on a long call today and shared my screen. Tech support saw this clicking didn't do anything. All kinds of other things were tried... nothing! Now I got a message that my ticket is closed??? Just because someone found this article -- and didn't check if it was tried. Do I have to start all over now by calling tech support?

Hello, @Fran16

I’m here to help fix the challenges you’ve encountered upon importing to another software in QuickBooks Desktop.

There are some reasons why this occurs, which may cause damage data, and we can fix this by performing the Verify data and Rebuild utility tools in QuickBooks Desktop. This way, it'll return to its default order and automatically fixes minor company record data issues. Though, you need to back up your data first before performing these steps below to save your company data if file corruption happens.

Let me show you how:

Verify Data:

  1. Press the File menu.
  2. Choose Utilities from the drop-down option.
  3. Select Verify Data
  4. Tap Ok to continue.

Rebuild Data:

  1. Click the File tab at the top.
  2. Select Utilities from the drop-down option.
  3. Choose Rebuild Data
  4. Click Ok on Rebuild has completed.

When the verify/rebuilding data finished, we can close and reopen your file to revamp it. Or restart your computer to refresh your QuickBooks data.

For more information, you may take a look at this article: Resolve data damage on your company file.

Lastly,  update your QuickBooks to the latest release to ensure you have the most recent software.

Also, in case you need tips and related articles in the future, visit our QuickBooks Community help website for reference: Self-help

As always, you can contact our QuickBooks Support team if you need assistance with this. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment and help you navigate using one of their tools.

If you have further questions or concerns about importing in QuickBooks Desktop, please don't hesitate and reach back out! I'm always happy to help. Have a good day!

quickbooks data to trubotax. Software?

I follow the instructions and a window pops up asking me to enter the Password for Quickbooks. A blinking cursor stays on for 2 seconds and then freezes, not allowing me to enter my Password. Meanwhile, a message pops up saying something like "working on reviewing QB data" . At this time my whole computer freezes and I must press CTRL ALT DEL and delete both QB  & TT. I'm using QB 2020 Desktop and TT 2020 Business. Can you help?

Hi there, theMathprof.

You can repair QuickBooks. This process can repair some of the most common issues when using the program.

Before that, make sure to create a back up of your company file. Here's an article on how to save one: Back Up Your QuickBooks Desktop Company File

Once done, follow these steps on how to repair the software:

  1. Open the Windows Start menu, then open your Control PanelNote: If you're using Windows 8 or 8.1, search "Control Panel" in the Windows Start menu.
  2. Select Programs and Features then click Uninstall a Program. If you don't see Programs and Features, select Programs instead. Then select Program and Features.
  3. Click QuickBooks from the list of programs, then Uninstall/Change.
  4. Select Continue, or Next.
  5. Click Repair, then select Next. The repair should start right away, but it may take a while to finish. You can leave it running, and come back once it's done.
  6. Once it's done, click Finish.

After that, try exporting your data to TurboTax to check if you can already enter your password. Let me also share these articles for more details:

I've repaired the QB2020 Pro installation. I've verified my QB2020 Pro data file. I am still unable to import QB data into TT2020 Business. The program hangs at the spinning icon with the message "We're reviewing your Quickbooks information..."

I've been using QB for 18 years and filing using import to TT for 7 years. Never had this problem. Same PC I've had for several years and not had a problem.

I've also tried to do the import in Win10 safe mode. Same problem. I have now wasted half a day, and could have just manually entered the data by now.

Hi there, @Geomo.

I appreciate the things you've done to successfully import the tax data from your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) company to TurboTax Business. Since you've done the troubleshooting steps mentioned by my colleagues, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care team to check further what has caused this issue.

One of our specialists will perform a screen share session and verify your account to help you get to the bottom of this. Here's how you can contact them:

  1. Open your QBDT company and go to the Help menu.
  2. Press F1 or select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Click Contact us.
  4. Give a brief description of your issue such as "I can't import my tax data from QBDT Pro 2020 to TurboTax Business 2020, applied troubleshooting steps but still not doing the import process to start", then select Let's talk and then get connected through messaging.

I'd also suggest checking the support hours to know what is the best time to get in touch with them at your convenience.

I've added this article that may help you assess your computer's specs to ensure it's not one of the stoppers to successfully import the data to TurboTax: System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2020 and Enterprise Solutions 20.0.

I'll be here if you have other QuickBooks-related questions. Feel free to let me know in the comment section.
