Join nowI'm running Mojave for Mac and my Quickbooks 2016 for Mac has been crashing after the "open company" file is selected. I have removed every preference, keychain, app support I could find I have reinstalled several times and even installed the update I was notified of today. The same crash is replicated every time (crash catcher screen). I have tried to repair data on file but it doesn't let me get that far. I was able to run my file by making a new user on my mac. but that is far from ideal. I have called tech support with no solution other than it's probably a "virus"(?) or a firewall issue. I was thinking of a reinstall of some system elements but that seems like overkill. I could be wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions? I might even update to 2019 but now I'm very leery of that update even working.
You can disable third party extensions and such by rebooting your Mac and holding down the shift key while it reboots. That launches the Mac in "Safe mode". Give that a try and then launch QuickBooks. Does it still crash? If not - the problem is some extension.
Another trick is to hold the option key down when you launch QuickBooks. That prevents QB from automatically opening the last used company file. Does that work? If it does then try opening the Sample Product file. Does that work? If it does the problem may be with your company file itself.
Let me know here the results of those efforts and we'll continue if necessary.
I rebooted in safe mode and the issue remains. I also tried option + open QB still the same crash.
I've even gone so far as to rebuild the company file with my other user ( i created to test on quickbooks) and sending it back to my main user and still same crash. So I'm guessing it's not the file since it works in my other (test) user.
Good work for doing the troubleshooting steps, Chag.
I know you've called in before, but I still suggest getting in touch with our QuickBooks Technical Support to have this reported to our engineers. They have more tools to take a better look at this.
