quickbooks mac2020 data export to quickbooks accountant 2018

I'm running quickbooks for mac 2020 desktop.

my accountant/tax office is using quickbooks 2018 accountant for windows (desktop)

How do I get my data to them?

Quickbooks support wasn't able to help, or willing to dig into the issue.

There is NO WAY that quickbooks expects everyone in the world (or US even) to be all within 1 year of release.

Any QB geniuses out there :) Thank you.

Hey there, @rickysedona.

At the moment, the ability to open a QuickBooks for Mac company file directly in QuickBooks for Windows isn't available. You can, however, convert your file for use on Windows, then back to Mac once your accountant is done making changes. Check it out:

Converting from Mac to Windows:

  1. Open your company file as the admin. Go to the File menu, then Export. Choose the option To QuickBooks for Windows.
  2. If you’re prompted to verify before you back up, use Verify.
  3. Name the file and choose the folder to save it in. Then, select SaveNote: Make sure you don't add special characters in the file name.
  4. Enter and confirm your password, then OK.
  5. Hit OK on the confirmation window.
  6. Move the file to your Windows computer. Most people do this with a USB flash drive, cloud storage, or email if the file is small enough.
  7. Restore the file in QuickBooks for Windows.

Converting back to Mac from Windows:

  1. Open the file as the administrator.
  2. Go to the File menu, then Utilities. Choose Copy Company File for QuickBooks Mac, then follow the onscreen instructions. QuickBooks will create a MAC.qbb (backup) file.
  3. You’ll see a message that says "It looks like ‘QuickBooks for Windows’ might be a better fit for your company," Make sure to check what data isn’t converted from Windows. If you want to continue, hit Yes.
  4. Go to the folder you want to save the file in. Name the file, and Save. Make sure to not use special characters in the file name.
  5. Move the file to your Mac by using any storage device such as USB flash drive, etc.
  6. Close QuickBooks for Mac.
  7. Copy the backup to the Documents folder on your Mac.
  8. Reopen QuickBooks Desktop for Mac, then go to File, then Open Company.
  9. Find and select the MAC.qbb file, then Open.
  10. Hit OK when asked if you want to restore a QuickBooks for Windows file.
  11. Enter a name for the restored file, and then Save.

That's it! If you'd like to learn more, check out:

@rickysedona

Ask your accountant to utilize the trial license of Pro 2020 to open your file and reconvert it back to the Mac format. Should you need their service more than 30 days, ask your accoutant to upgrade their QBD (Premier) Accountant 2018 to 2020. Or they may consider purchasing Pro 2020 1 user as the lowest cost to serve you.
